I was connecting through IAD today at about noon and wound up with a delay because of what the FA said was some sort of collision or incident on one of the runways. Anyone know what this was about?

Also, what are the three white-tail 737s for? And what's with all of the construction activity?

I witnessed this first hand... very scary to tell you the truth. A learjet was in his flare when he dipped a wing, overcorrected and subsequently continued the uncontrolled dipping of each wing (probably about 8 times -seeming like forever). The aircraft then struck the right wing pretty hard on the runway breaking the tip tank. he then powered up and made an emergency downwind landing as fuel was pouring out of his wing. He was then met by ARFF teams.

And those three planes are actually 767-200's...no one is allowed to know what they are used for.

The construction near the terminals is for the new airtrain (to get rid of the star wars looking people movers) and the construction on the other side of the runway is for a new terminal.

Actually, the construction work over there is for a new runway- it is part of the 'D2 Development'- here's a link from the MWAA website detailing everything:

Any new terminal would go behind the current Terminals C/D- that is part of the reason why the AeroTrain system extends so far beyond terminals C/D.

Those belong to the CIA...they are 737-300s and a 737-400

He's Talking about the 3 near Signature, not the 3 767-200s that belong to Vision Air.

The opinions I post are of mine and mine alone, not of the airline I work for.

Thanks, I was starting to feel silly for a moment for confusing some 767s for 737s.

Why are they at Dulles and not Andrews or Langley?
