It seems to me as though Delta kept the DC-8 in its fleet for severla years longer than most other American carriers. Am I right, and, if so, what year were they retired.
I remember seeing a Delta DC-8 at Fort Myers (RSW) in the late 1980s. Does anyone know where it might have been going?

Actually United kept their DC-8s longer then Delta. I think United had theirs until 1991.

The retired it in the 1st half of 1989, they had recently spen talot of money re engining those aircraft with those CFM engines. Basically it held DL over until they got a sufficient amount of 767-300's.

Delta still has the L-1011 too.
