Anyone else here have continuous airliner crash nightmares? I have them all the time but last night was very detailed. Usually I don't recall airline or aircraft but last night I dreamt of a Delta MD88 crashing.

This happens to me on occasion too! It's always an NW DC-9 or an AA MD-82, and I'm always watching, never insie the plane. So frightening in the dream, but then it's kind of cool when you wake up and realize it was all fake. It's cool that happens to other people. I thought I was weird.

I've got to experience it during flying lesson. I was in a Grumman AA1B doing a lesson and my walk around and run-up went perfectly fine but right off the departure leg at 300 feet the engine started losing power so we had to ditch in a field, nosed over and came to a rest. God had everything in line for this crash because we nosed over at the perfect time to avoid the rocks, it rained the day before so kinda wet dirt, as well as stopping us right before an enbankment. I am 16 years old and not many can say they were in a plane crash. I will never go near a grumman again it was a scary plane from the get go but I needed to fly and thats all that was avalible. There are some pictures below and the details were I was in a Grumman T-Cat, accident happened in State College, PA, On April 6th, 2008 at 1600...
It means you spend too much time on A.net. Unless you've been in one, at the scene of one, know someone that has died in one or you have been directly impacted by one you have no reason what so ever to be having them

I can answer yes to a few of my points.....This is a business were people can die. You can get killed on the ramp, you can get killed in the hangar and you can get killed in the plane. We deal with it everyday. One quick moment of loss of concentration can be fatal. I deal with it by not dwelling on it and just doing my best to be safe.

My uncle died in a small Cessna accident about 8 years back , he was my reason to get into aviation. I actually just found out about A.net about 3 weeks ago, and became a member like 2 days ago, so I don't think too much time on A.net is the problem.

I had a dream last may that I was looking at my window, and I saw Southwest Shamu ( 334) sitting a top the trees outside of my apartment! It was very real as I remember seeing the engine with the fin decal on it on fire, as well as the people evacuating through the slides, and everyone survived, the captain even had a conversation with me! Turns out I would end up flying N334SW on August 1,2007 from BWI-TPA, and I always would think I would feel excited to fly on Shamu but I was keeping my fingers crossed that my dream wasn't going to happen in real life, especially with me on the plane!

The only time I've ever had a dream about a plane crash was the night after Zoom went bankrupt. I was in a house that just happened to be right at the threshold of a runway (don't know where this dream took place) and a Zoom 763 landed but sort of skid off the side of the runway and burst into flames. Scary until you wake up and realize its a dream.

Does anyone NOT know someone who's died in a plane crash? I've known several who have died and several who have survived crashes.
Moreover, why is that a requirement to have such a thing as a nightmare? I have a recurring nightmare that I smash my own front teeth with pliers despite not wanting it to happen as I do it. I've never met anyone who did that. I'd never do that.

When I was a child I lived under the base-leg approach for the local airport's southern runway. I loved watching Eastern's 727s making their approaches (I'm old). But I had recurring dreams that one of the jets crashed in my neighborhood. The weird thing was that it was always overcast and the jet would descend out of the overcast in a slow, absolutely silent flat spin and simply crack open on the ground. Weird!
Every now and then I have a dream my plane doesn't climb out and I'm flying Vmc down the street avoiding trees and power lines.
Then there are the dreams where she has a LOT more horsepower then usual heh heh. Those are awesome!

I live in an approach path, and I frequently have nigthmares about witnessing a crash near my house, they are not very scary, but quite realistic. I haven´t had one recently, so I can´t really give examples, but I usually remember the airline and aircraft type when I wake up.

I lost a relative in the WTC, and I had a dream immediately afterwards that I was working at a conference table high up in a building. I was alone; turned around to look out the window and the last thing I saw was the nose of a plane, flash, and I woke up sweating.
Kinda weird if you ask me; but one things for certain, something like that you just never forget.
And I agree with NWADC9; although it is my favorite show, it did leave me wondering... lol

Frequent one I have had is one involving 3 a/c. Two - an AA 772 and AF 744 had collided somewhere above a city (in the dream I pick up a safety card for an AA777 from the wreckage); then somewhere else, perhaps unrelated, I see the semi-burnt out shell of a DL M88 on a barren field.
Actually just before 9/11 by pure coincidence I had the following: Intense interest in the Connie/DC-8 collision over Brooklyn (I think?); curiosity about an apartment building in Miami with a giant gap in it (I saw it on some show I think); and a repeating nightmare in which I see the tail section of a UA 744 sitting in the midst of building wreckage. Weird huh?

I have had them my whole life, and I'm 52. I grew up 6 miles from JFK and aside from having a prophetic dream about and Eastern 727 crashing at JFK 2 weeks before it actually happened (I told my brother about the dream and he freaked when it happened), I notice I have plane crash dreams when I'm feeling emotional about something.
I've come to believe that because I obviously love commercial aviation my mind chooses to use plane crash dreams to help me understand where I'm at emotionally.
I have them on occasion, but certainly not continuously. Mostly I dream that I'm watching a plane go down, usually in slow motion. I don't recall ever having a dream where I was on a plane that was crashing.
Living close to DCA I'm seeing planes all the time, and in some of my dreams I've been outside my apartment and looking to the north when I see one crash during departure. Funny, I never see them crashing on approach.
I've tried to understand why I have these dreams, and I've concluded that in spite of the fact that I've flown a half-million miles (at least) I still don't completely trust the technology. It just doesn't seem completely natural to be lifted off the ground and transported through the sky at high speed. But I don't worry about it.
Quoting B707forever (Reply 20): I've come to believe that because I obviously love commercial aviation my mind chooses to use plane crash dreams to help me understand where I'm at emotionally.
Very interesting. You love aviation, and that's why you dream about planes crashing? I'd like to hear more about this, but unfortunately this is the wrong forum. This sounds fascinating.
Actually, any thread about the U.S. legacy carriers' freefall into mediocrity is depressing to me.
As for this topic, I just had one 3 days ago - witnessed a 737 repeatedly stall and then crash. I attributed the dream to three combined factors: 1) I am flying to MSP in a United 737 today; 3) I am from Pittsburgh, and the US 737 crash (rudder servo valve defect) 10 or 15 years ago still lingers with me; and 3) my girlfriend and I had just talked about how John Madden fears flying and so drives to every football game. There you go. Otherwise, I bet I have a plane crash dream 2-3 times a year.

I've had several dreams, nothing too specific, just seeing a plane and somehow knowing it's in trouble and then i see smoke or fire in the distance. I run to the scene and see some charred wreckage but never any bodies. I guess i dream of only Remote Controlled aircraft.
I've also had dreams where aircraft fly over me, sort of like at an air show and i can't help feeling that they are going to crash on me. A very odd feeling (actually had a dream like this last night!!) The planes do maneuvers that can't be done in "real life" and they fly in between houses and over my head by 20' and there are so many of them they should collide into each other, but never do and they never crash on me, i'm just terrified... a real odd feeling after waking up from one of those.

Its ALWAYS a UA 737 in the dark gray colors....usually on take off or just after take off..

This is actually a recurring dream for me (average 2-3 times a year). It is never the same plane, or backgroun or time of the deay. It always looks and feels very real. Sometimes I am very close, sometimes I am far, but I am never on the plane, just watching it. Sometimes I smell the jet fuel, sometimes even feel the heat of the fire. I once asked a phsycologist about this and he said it might be my frustration of not becoming a commercial pilot (which was my life long dream, mind you I work at AIG).
I have two other recurring dreams that I guess back up the shrink's theory. In the first I am trying to get to the airport, but never seem to find it, or the car breaks down and I never reach the airport. The other is that I board a plane, and in the take off run, the airplane fails to reach enough speed and starts to lose altitude... very scary stuff.
