I did hear at work the other day that the plan is now to refit the 777 cabins, but not to include an AVOD system, but the old fashioned loop system. Not sure how true that is, but I think it is a bad decision if it comes to pass, especially when most of BA's competitors offer AVOD in economy, never mind business.

Regards

Mike

Not true for the whole fleet, however that will be the case for the 777s with the older style smaller IFE screens.

First there are the 767 not getting new CW at all, now this, so it seems like BA is loosing one of the main atractives for premium pax = uniform long haul premium product across the whole fleet.

The 767's wont be around for very much longer and are rarely used on heavy business traffic routes but the lack of AVOD throughout the 777's is disappointing. I think it's something to do with wiring issues and how the system is wired to the rest of the plane.

Yes, but I'd still stay BA have a pretty consistent product compared to the likes of EK. Also while the 767 is not having the new CW, the "original" CW (in fact it being an upgrade from the very first CW) is still nothing to complain about and much better than a lot of other airlines' J offerings.

Now that the 787 is delayed, I think they'll be around for just as long as some of BA's older 744s if not longer.

Indeed, it would be too costly to gut out the GMIS system and have it replaced so they are not updating them. However they only account for about 1/4 of the fleet so once the roll out is complete you will have a better chance of being on an AVOD 777. These aircraft will also be retired from the fleet sooner as they are mainly on lease and BA will not be renewing their lease once the new fleet starts to arrive.

Which are the GMIS equipped aircraft? I presume they're the earliest delivered 777s, including the ZZZ* aircraft.
