Reports from Fox News's Geraldo Rivera say that there found granades in some of the bags in the bag room. Jetblue employees have been allowed back into the terminal but everyone else is being kept behind the cement barrier outside of the terminal.

On Flyertalk User "Philpys" says that the pax have returned to the T6 Temp terminal.

"Right now waiting for my flight to Pittsburgh (on one of the gates only accessible via shuttle bus) there is an announcement that all people have to evacuate building due to security reason. After a momentary confusion while security people was at a loss on how to evacuate people, we all came back inside. Looks like they figured this location is safe enough to not evacuate at all, though the main terminal have been evacuated. Nonetheless, the flights seems to be on indefinite hold right now. (8:17 AM)"

Terminal re-opened.....I enjoy this NY CBS's station of their new terminal, instead of their current.

To correct...WCBS reports at 8:30 terminal open....WNBC reports at 8:30 terminal closed....somebody is wrong.

NEW YORK (AP) _ JetBlue has reopened its terminal at New York's Kennedy Airport following a brief evacuation due to a suspicious package.

JetBlue spokeswoman Alison Eshelman says passengers returned inside Terminal 6 at 8:15 a.m. Monday.

She says the package turned out to be WWII replica paper weights that resembled grenades. Scanners spotted them in a passenger's luggage, and the terminal was emptied around 7:50 a.m.

Yup It was an elderly couple who didn't think that packing those in their checked luggage was a problem. Saw them for myself this morning after the evacuation was cleared. Chalk it up to stupidity.

And on the day of the ceremonial ribbon cutting at T5 with press, media, friends, and relatives. Yikes!

This creates the interesting question: how well would things have gone if they had tried to carry them on instead of check them? Would they have been able to explain to the TSA that they were just paperweights? Or would it have been more of an issue than this was?
