I've done some searching for this topic but the threads I've found are all 2+ years old.

Can anyone provide updates on spotting at BUF and/or IAG airports? Where are the best locations for photos? Is it worth a 3-hour drive for a day of spotting, or will i just be asked to leave? Is it even worth a side trip over to IAG?

any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Chris

Funny you should ask. I ventured ver to BUF saturday to see if I could get a shot of the HA 767 the Raiders chartered.I see that the Medivac place looked real nice! I haven't been to BUF in over 18 months because I was threatened with arrest @ the restaurant in Feb 06.
I was considering writing the Medivac place to see if they are friendly towards photogs.

BUF is a tough place to spot and take pictures. If you are ground side the places are limited and you have to be on the lookout for the Nazi's er... security. Airside it is a different animal. If rwy 5 is the primary there are good opportunities for landing shots, but if rwy 23 is the primary the planes tend to land quite a ways u the runway. These observations are from airside of course. IAG may be worth going if you know of any thing in particular that you want but it is not great if you are just going on a whim.

Hence my almost being arrested Feb 06 for being @ a spot I have been going to for years. Hell,I remember when families would picnic on the lawn there !!!!!!

It's now posted at Flying Tigers/Mercy Flight...you can be there. They don't have a problem with it as long as you pick up after yourself. I've been there 100+ times in 2008 and haven't been heckled once.

Granted, I wear my SIDA badge whenever I'm there, even though it's nowheres close to being a SIDA area it gives me peace of mind that they know I'm just another wackjob at BUF  Wink

And IAG...don't bother. Not worth it.

That's good to hear for a change. That's the way it should be. I was threatened with a Trespassing charge back in Feb 06 for minding my own business waiting for a AM 73G.

Like I said, now that there's an official tenant in the building, it's a different story than before when the whole place was abandoned.

I've only seen the police there once...and that was leading a couple away after they decided that it'd be a good idea to have a bonfire (non-arson) there. I stopped over when a Song 757 diverted at about 9:30PM on a Friday and the cops were just getting there right before I arrived.

Needless to say, I turned around and went to Denny's instead.

That makes sense. That building looked like it had its fair share of vandals.Just another example of some people ruining it for everybody.
