It should do well. It's one of the former Pan Am routes. (Boston Main on the B727)

Are they even still flying or are they down for the count?

I wonder how long G4 (Allegiant) will keep this route around. I would like to book some of my clients on them. But, I never know how long a route is going to last. They dropped LAN/LAS flights this year. But, the aircraft was going out full all the time. Seems like they would have made some money on that route being the NWA did not match that routeing...

The key is not how full the flights are but how many people are booking packages. The extras like hotels and cars are how they avoid a loss in Allegiant's business model. They even refer to themselves as a travel company that operates an airline, not an airline.

You always say that.

It has been said before, and I'm sure it will be said again, but a 100% full plane does not equal profitability.

Strangeley even Pan Am kept this flight around, so it will probably work for Allegiant.

I believe Pan Am the airline folded once and for all; and now it's just a logo on the side of railroad cars  Sad sad..

Jeez,I wish they would come to ROC. They used to do occasional casino charters. Though,an Orlando route would put them against FL.

This route is a bit of a surprise, but with a wide enough regional catchment, the perhaps the route can work. I'd be careful about appealing to Pan Am II, which failed in 2004, unless one has evidence that the ELM-SFB route was successful for them.

The chamber of commerce says Elmira is 31,000 people and Chemung County 90,000. The press release notes that they think surrounding counties in NY and PA are sufficient to buttress this market. But I wonder why they didn't go to nearby Binghamton, whose immediate MSA (per US Census) is much larger at 254,000 (as of 2002). I wonder if G4 looked at both, but got the best deal from ELM.

I believe Pan Am the airline folded once and for all; and now it's just a logo on the side of railroad cars sad..

Don't forget Colonial space-line Pan Galactic in Battlestar Galactica.

As well as JetBlue, who's running 1x daily ROC-MCO. ROC isn't the kind of market G4 likes to enter, since we are big enough to already have LCC's. If oil were to drop some, say to around $80 or below for awhile, I wouldn't be surprised to see FL restart ROC-LAS.

Think its normal for ministers or Vips to fly commercial isn't it? I had the Finance Minister of Bangladesh flying SQ from SIN-DAC(JCL) and senator Hilary Clinton flying EWR-SIN(JCL). And also a whole group of Nigerian ministers flying SIN-EWR.

Which is probably why so many FLL routes were canceled despite great loadfactors. FLL is not a good package vacation market.

From a college town to Orlando? That makes no sense at all. The surrounding area has virtually no population to speak of.

Well, not "virtually none;" Centre County has 135,000 year-round residents, and most of the surrounding counties have around 30,000-45,000, except for Altoona's county to the SW which has over 100k as well. So maybe 250,000--300,000 within say a 60 mile radius of SCE. No scheduled LCC closer than FL at MDT which appears to be about 1-1.5 hours away (PA experts correct me if wrong). So SCE seems to be within, if low in, G4's ballpark, for say two weeklies to SFB.

I don't have time to do a more detailed search on the ELM catchment area, but with Chemung County (90,000) Steuben County (98,000) Yates County (24,000) and the Binghamton metro area (250,000), plus northern central PA, you've probably got half a million people within 60 miles. A lower-hanging piece of fruit than SCE for G4, IMO.

60 miles in that part of the state may take close to two hours of driving. You're also talking about an area that is fairly old and does not have much disposable income. I wish them the best of luck but the economics don't seem like they will work, especially in the current environment.
