...Then, why might the headline read "Venezuelan airline Aserca denies will make Alitalia offer?"

PS: Though, if true, how absurd would it be ? Maybe they could make a direct link from Roma to Los Roques. There is definitely a demand to fill one of the Magnifica class.

ZERO chance of happening, Air France or an italian consortium will buy Alitalia or whatever is left of it. I was at MIA yesterday, and the Alitalia 777 was there.
Quote: Italian news agency ANSA earlier quoted Aserca director-general Hugo Santoro as saying in a statement that "over the coming days, we will send (details of) our proposal to the special administrator" of Alitalia.
However an airline spokesman told AFP that "Mr. Hugo Santoro does not work at the company.
"The statement didn't come from here. We have no idea how the statement was distributed."

Today in the morning a friend of mine texts me and says: Hey dude, Aserca is going to buy Alitalia!!!
I replied, STOP BOTHERING ME...
Now I see the rumors are actually in the air, HAHAHAHAHA, this surely made my day... Aserca can't even upgrade a damn DC-9 and they're planning to buy AZ? I think it was a way to advertise their airline and get into the headlines of today's newspapers... what a joke!

This is getting even better,
I just surfed a bit on the Venezuelan news sites and found this interesting new:
Quote: Varios cables de agencias internacionales reseñaron ayer que Aserca “tiene la intención de hacer una oferta sobre la totalidad o parte de Alitalia”. Las agencias citaron a Hugo Santoro como supuesto director general de Aserca, que habría manifestado que “con la ayuda del gobierno socialista (de Venezuela), estamos seguros de que podemos resolver buena parte de los problemas de Alitalia y sus empleados”.
According to this, Aserca had no idea that this 'offer' had been launched. It's been said that Hugo Santoro was the one who gave this offer and, according to Aserca, this person doesn't work in the airline.
MOREOVER, the quote says, WITH THE VENEZUELAN SOCIALIST GOVERNMENT'S HELP, WE ARE SURE WE AND OLD: Guangzhou - Baiyun (CAN / ZGGG) (closed), China">CAN SOLVE MANY OF THE PROBLEMS ALITALIA AND ITS EMPLOYEES ARE GOING THROUGH.
Nice way to link Aserca with the government huh?
Cheers
