Nice to see the new wave of Mexican LCC push beyond their borders.
Quote: Mexican Carrier Interjet Poised To Launch U.S. Service
09/25/2008
Mexican low-fare carrier Interjet plans to start service to the U.S. before yearend, with Ontario, Calif., as the likely destination, says airline CEO Jose Luis Garza Alvarez.
The three-year-old carrier also is trying to accelerate its growth. By the end of the year it should have 15 A320s in hand with more on order. But it would like some of those narrowbodies to be fielded faster, particularly as rival Volaris, which is slightly younger, has grown faster. Volaris will have 21 A319s in its fleet by year end.
Alvarez expects the Mexican airline market to get less crowded in the coming months. There are roughly 12 carriers now operating in the market, he says, with some heavily indebted.
Interjet, which operates the A320 in a relatively low-capacity, 150-seat configuration, eventually plans to add 12 more seats to the aircraft. However, it is waiting to reach 80% average load factors.

Quoting San747 (Reply 1): Great news for ONT... on a similar note, what is the status of proposed TA service to ONT announced months ago?
great news for Ontario, not so much for Aeromexico. If Interjet and Volaris start launching routes to the US, Aeromexico would be in a world of hurt.

I'm not sure what happended to TACA which announced their intention to serve ONT during Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa's econmic trip to Central America last summer.
Suppose the run up of fuel, and possibly UAs decision to quit SAL & GUA which saw TA reinforce their LAX frequencies led them to forget about ONT in the short term.

Would they start ONT from TLC or MEX?? I remember they applied for TLC-IAH, GDL-IAH, MTY-IAH and TLC-ONT, but now that they have slots in MEX, they should apply for MEX-ONT and get ZE's route authority...

Interjet has been criticized for having only 150 seats in the A320 and I guess they finally realized it is costing them $$$. When they started operations, they said their A320's had only 150 seats because they were targeting business passengers, but finally they are thinking with their heads!!!
It is not a matter of reaching 80% load factor system wide, since many of their Sunday flights to beach resorts like CUN-MTY, CUN-TLC, ACA-TLC, ZIH-TLC, SJD-TLC have 100% load factors and they could be selling 12 more seats...

Permit me the liberty to ask an off topic question, particularly to the A.net Mexico posse - Any info on Avolar? They've opened a sales office on Century Blvd. just outside of LAX. Despite their present difficulties, do they have north of the border aspirations?
With a choice between changing one's mind & proving there's no need to do so, most everyone gets busy on the proof.
