Any Chance AC Will Pick Up Some 757s To Cover Gap?

With the 762's leaving the fleet is there any chance that AC might lease some 757's to cover the gap in aircraft capacity until the 787 arrives? I am just wondering what that might look like route wise? How would that compare with just trying to cover with the A321 and 763 with the A330/777's covering the rest of the 763 routes?

Thoughts please...

are there 757s in the desert? If not, where would they get them?

Regardless, with everyone trying to shrink their way to profitability these days, perhaps AC is quite happy to drop their capacity?

They could pick some up from BA. I was just reading in another thread that they might sell/lease the ones that are not being used for OpenSky (which may well be none) Boeing might know of a few that could be leased... since the delay is on them they might do it as a customer service type of deal. (much how Airbus leased aircraft to A380 airlines to help cover the delay)

Why would they? Why introduce an entirely new airframe into the airline when you could probably make appropriate capacity adjustments from scheduling etc. Air Canada has no 757 mx infrastructure...it would be alot of unnecessary cost associated. Its not as simple as let me grab some 757s. Then there is the issue of if there are any around that would be suitable.

Fair enough about the MX, but UA could probably handle that for them at a discount since they are partners and do code shares. Let me re ask my question. My question is not IF they will do it, but HOW they might do it (routes etc) would that be more or less efficiant than using other aircraft to cover the route that they already have and cut frequency on others. I already know it's a long (very very very) shot, but how MIGHT it work.

AC was looking for A321 for lease and weren't happy so far what was on the market. The 757 was probably looked at but I am sure the rumour mill exagerated the significance. While it shares some ratings with the 767 would be expensive to operate because it is so different from the rest of the fleet. With 757's being snapped up by the cargo operators (FedEx) included and so many charter operations very happy with them, there aren't any worth it kicking around that aren't spoken for. The 757's are being used across the Atlantic to secondary markets and can be used for larger markets if the soft market continues. While there weren't enough orders to keep the line operating the aircraft has even grown in popularity and demand. The new 737-900ER is encroaching on some of the 757 territory but it means purchasing a new or leasing a much more expensive aircraft than a used 757.
