Yesterday, Ryanair announced an expansion from MAD. From 18 November, 2 more aircraft (currently: 4) will be based at the airport of the Spanish capital.
With the new aircraft, 4 new domestic routes will be opened, all twice daily:
Palma de Mallorca
Santiago de Compostella
Besides, capacity to DUB, SDR and BGY will be increased. (3 daily to BGY, 2 daily to DUB and SDR).
With these new flights, Ryanair shows again that it is focusing more and more on domestic flights. In their early years, they were mostly flying international and for a long time, STN-PIK and STN-NQY were their only domestic routes. In the last 2 years, we have seen a huge increase in domestic flights, mostly in Italy and Spain, but also in Germany, France and Ireland.
At the same time, Ryanair keeps on suffering from the Boeing strike. Several flights from BHX and NRN have been cancelled between 24 to 29 October.

Noticeable how twice daily doesnt always mean good day return options. The two Santander flights are are about 4-5 hours apart while in some other cases its either early morning/mid afternoon, or lunchtime and late evening flights. Does reduce the attractiveness to business passengers, but FR do only have 6 aircraft at MAD so not every route can get early morning and evening flights
