Wow, the 748I becomes a big success - as BBJ! No large jet has ever received so many orders as private plane, and that before it even flies. So, who will get one? The Saudi King (I´m almost sure of that as his 747 fleet is aging, so maybe he´ll get even two), the Sultan of Brunei (very likely), and some or the other Middle Eastern Emirs for sure.

9 more 767s for ANA? Is this part of the 787 compensation? I guess that line is staying open that much longer!

Looks like it. But, it means that last week's UFO order for 9 767's should be JL's... together with 2 out of the 4 UFO 777's. Which means 2 more 777's to be guessed which airline it will belong to.

This information is quite interesting to me, seeing that now 7 748BBJ have been ordered is simply amazing. These are destined for some of the worlds most rich and or powerful people on the planet, but at the end off the day they are still mere mortals just like you or I and personally I would want to got for the biggest/flashest that was currently on the market i.e. the A380.
The performance figures that manufactures offer for these planes place then approximately in the same ball park in terms of operating cost yet the 380 would offer more flexibility in terms of available space for luxuries...Yet as we all know there has thus far only been 1 order placed for an A380ACJ with Mr Leahey quietly hinting that there may be another order in the pipeline.
So I have to wonder why there is a preference for the BBJ over ACJ as I cannot imagine that the price difference is a deciding factor the individuals involved in such a purchase.
Also I ask these questions not wanting to start an A vs B war, just offering up questions for debate
Final Question, What would you buy???
Me A380ACJ Just for Mines bigger bragging rights
Must think up a new one soon, slow moving brain trying to get into gear ;)

Hmmm, perhaps that one just went 748BBJ . . .

Operating cost sort of identical, but the Airbus will be much more expensive, probably close to 100 million above the Boeing, if not more [list price difference, but more importantly, 50% more space to furnish/decorate]. In an airline operation those additional costs are "easily" justified as they should lead to more income. Not so for a business jet. How big do you really need?

Actually, I believe list price is not that much apart... I believe both are very near to $300 million. And the 748 does actually burn quite a bit less than an A380, although I believe that will be the last of the worries of the owner But the furnishing/decorating cost is, as you rightly point out, a very substantial part of the total cost. And the big advantage for the 748 is IMO that all the playground is on main deck... All you can see from the very front to the rear of the plane! With the A380, the guests need to go to the attic to see all of the other goodies. And need to go up the stairs, for crying out loud! Or is an elevator on the options list????

You joke about this but i'm sure if Bill Gates or some other amasingly rich person were to pitch up at Mr Leahey's office with a cheque for $300 million and said that they want a lift on the plane the question would be "Certantly, and that would be for how many people?" Lets not forget that aircraft have had lifts on them for years when they have had under floor galleys etc...

Some UFOs have also been revealed:
30.March 2007 5x 772ER changed to 773ER and now given as JAL
04.October 2007 5x738 now given as JAL
28.September 2007 1x (out of 34) 738 now given as Alaska Airlines, may be the other 33 are also for them ?????
31.October 2007 1x738 now shown as Alaska Airlines
23.November 2007 2x787-8 now shown as Avianca (total 12 Dreamliner)
Regarding JAL: I think it is common agreement that the 9x763ER plus 2x773ER ordered on 17.September 2008 are for JAL (or probably some leasing construction, as JAL has the right to buy or lease these planes).
On the same date there are also 10x 738 as UFO, may be that is JAL as well ?
And there are still 4x UFO 738 listed under 30.March 2007 - the date JAL ordered another five Triple Sevens. So may be thats JAL as well ???

Good catch! How did you find these out?

Well, finally this one's cleared up! Puts an end to the speculations where about every 777 operator was mentioned as probable customer... But I can't remember JAL being mentioned (though I cannot recollect all posts, sorry). I must admit I never thought of JL either, why hadn't I?
I hope we'll find out about the 4 77L's of January 3, 2007 and the 23 788's of January 14 2008 soon as well.

28 September 2007 probably was a very good day for Boeing, with multiple customers signing for the 737. Don't if that day was particularly special, apart from being my birthday And no, that day I didn't receive a 737 as a present, not even a scale model If AS had ordered all those 34, why disclose just one and the other from one month later

Agreed. Will probably be disclosed when it's clear whether these planes will be leased or not.

You may very well be right, as it's a mystery why JL keeps some orders as UFO's and others not... But why disclose the 777's but not the 737's???

May be because the two Alaska 738s delivered in September 2008 were from these orders ?
Boeing has done this in the past, e.g. with HapagLloyd/TUI 737s, each time one was delivered, the customer for one aircraft switched from UFO to Hapag/TUI.
