Hi everyyone!
Just a quick question.....I was planning on booking a trip to HK from Sydney for the christmas break at the end of this year with the preference of ether flying Qantas or Cathay ex Sydney. I do know that Cathay has increased its frequency to 4 flights per day/ 3 days a week of which are all serviced by A330-300 which i dont have a problem with...
BUT.....i was really hoping to fly on Qantas because i have done this before to HK on one of their twice daily flights..Either QF 127 or QF 187. I know that 187 has always been either a 767-300ER or A330-300 but i have noticed that lately Qantas have changed 127 after alll this time to a A333 from the 744! That was actually the only reason why i am biased for this flight coz i love the 747!
Can anyone tell me if this is a permanent aircraft change because if so i think i would rather fly Cathay...?

QF127 still shows 744 on most days in Dec (7th & 14th Dec are 330), just the occasional substitute I think. If you have a slight flexibility on dates, you can easily avoid the 330 and get on the 744.

I recently did SYD-HKG and got the 744 on the way there and A332 on the way back. There must have been a 744 shortage on my return trip, as Airnewzealand has said, because all of the QF departures that night to MEL, SYD and BNE were A330's.
Quoting Airnewzealand (Reply 3): We were recently told they are basing a 744 in SIN and flying it between SIN-LHR/FRA with the 333/743 operating between SYD/MEL-SIN.
I'll bet QF can't wait to commence A380 services to the US so they can free some 744's!

I am here at SYD now waiting for my connecting flight to SFO... which is delayed due to this shortage of 744...
Both HKG bound flights are operated by Airbus A330-300 today.

The only way to fly a QF 744 from SYD to HKG at the moment is to fly to MEL and take a connecting flight (QF29) from there.

Quoting Cchan (Reply 9): Until the end of Oct, most QF127/128 flights are scheduled with 333.
And this is good news.
At least they aren't using 763s again on SYD-HKG flights as happened early this year.
is the one at LHR an mx issue? do you know the rego of such ac? can you confirm the info re basing 744 in Singapore, if so, has the retirement date of end year for the 743's been extended?

Well SYD may have dodged the 763 bullet but not so lucky for MEL-HKG-MEL. QF85 & 86 will be operated by a 763 until Nov 15 (when the A333 will be back servicing the route).

Quoting CX flyboy (Reply 18): The 767s are still coming in, just not from SYD.
767 are operating from MEL/BNE-HKG.
Aircraft in LHR apparently has APU issues or something to that matter.
Spoke to 747-300 Engineers yesterday...aircraft operating AKL-LAX until end of December now. So maybe next year they will be gone. Also apparently -EBT has been sold.

Quoting Cchan (Reply 9): How long can we expect this 744 shortage thing will last for?
The shortage of B744 aircraft will continue until the A380 fleet arrive... QF will have 3 A380 aircraft in service by years end which will free up approximately 2-3 B744 aircraft for the NEW South America route...
Quoting Cchan (Reply 14): Looks like that will take some time.

Does anyone have more information about the status of VH-OJK in MNL?
The work on OJK was expected to take approximately 1-2 months to repair...

EBT left the fleet in Jan 07, I thought it was sold sometime ago?

Quoting Jamie86 (Reply 23): yeah i think VH-EBT went already. i believe the 4 remaining are EBV, EBW, EBX and EBY
Correct about EBV, W, X & Y. I've just been searching around the net regarding EBT and it looks like it was retired and sold sometime in mid 2007. Can anyone confirm?
26 Flyboysp: VH=EBT is definitely gone. I just did a search on the CASA register and EBT is now an experimental aircraft. http://www.casa.gov.au/casadata/regs..._
27 AlexA340B777: Thanks for the info. So we might barely see her fly again this year. Anyway, good to hear that OJK will be repaired and that damage wasn´t unfixable
28 AerorobNZ: The horse has bolted there at least in the NZ market place IMO. That's what happens when big delays become the norm and not the exception. Personally
29 PRFLYER: A team from Boeing arrived in Manila last week and have started the repair work on the B744. I'll try to get pictures and post them here.
30 Airnewzealand: Sorry guys,...wasnt -EBT...it is a diff one...Jamie86...werent you in the galley when the engineer was speaing to us...?? what was the rego?? ... Chee
31 PRFLYER: Here's VH-OJK when we were taxing for take-off in Manila.
32 AlexA340B777: Thanks for the update PRFLYER! Cheers
33 Smi0006: Looking at the pic fingers crossed we will get another 747 painted in the new paint scheme a bit quicker now perhaps?
34 XaraB: Please excuse my ignorance, but is what happened to these 744s public knowledge? If so, would anyone care to elaborate or post some links? Thanks in a
