Hybrid NW/DL Liveries

First off, before I get a several replies yelling at me, I KNOW that post merger the company will be called Delta, thus the livery will almost surely be the current Delta's livery.

So, for the fun of it, has anyone thought of or drawn up any type of hybrid livery, or logo for the side of the plane, etc. that could be used for the merger? It could either combine both liveries, be more like NW or more like DL, or it could be something completely new.
Or something similar to what US has on the the side of the plane right by the enterance, which shows the logos of all the airlines that make up/operate under the US name, or simply the name Northwest on the nose, like KLM does with Air France (even though they merged) Here is what I came up with

Big version: Width: 295 Height: 139 File size: 121kb
Big version: Width: 403 Height: 155 File size: 184kb

And just a thought, did Delta come up with its most recent livery with the intentions that if it and NW merged, the new livery could work for both, and if not, than it would still fit the DL name. Because if you look at it, the tail is about half red, close the the NW red, and the widget on the tail is facing about the same direction is the arrow on the compass of NW. I have a tough time believing that it is just a coincidence.

I have been told by someone in our Flight Ops department that Delta will not introduce a interim livery. They didn't understand my question. I was asking if Delta would move quickly to place their name on our a/c after the DCC. The second response to me was that there would be no interim paint job, and that it will take 18 mos. to repaint our fleet. Riiiiiiiihgt. So we are going to leave the NWA name on our a/c until it goes into the paint shop?

Delta has always moved quickly in past mergers to rebrand the accuirqed carrier. I seriously doubt they are going to allow our a/c to continue to fly around with the NWA name on the fueselage after the DCC. I think that Delta will place their name "brand" on all of our a/c immediately. I bet that 1 month after the DCC all of our a/c will have Delta stickers on them replacing any mention of the NWA name. And why not? You go buy something, don't you want you name on it?

America West went this route. Isn't the NWA logo to big to cover up with a sticker, like NW did when they purchased Republic.

No interim livery, no new livery.

Isn't the big "NWA" on the side of the a/c a giant sticker anyway? If so, rip it off and throw up some blue/red paint and wah-la....you've got Delta on the side of yer jets!

NW will still be NW a while after the merger is approved. It will take 18-24 months to obtain a single operating certificate. You will see the NW name and logo around for a little while longer.

Afraid not. Delta will have their name in big letters on every NW airplane very quickly (just as they did with WA and the other carriers they purchased). Just like immediately following the closing of the deal every NW flight will become a Delta flight "operated by NWA".

It is all corporate branding and not meant to ignore the contributions of NWA.

Back in the day when Delta acquired Chicago and Southern there was a time when Delta aircraft displayed the name "Delta C & S". Perhaps after the merger we can see planes that say "Delta NWA"  duck

I really like that one, even if it's fake

I think a relatively simple thing DL could do to sort of honor the NW legacy would be to just rotate the widget. Its already like that on the tails anyway. It would be like when they switched back to the classic widget from the round one, they don't need to make a big deal out of it. It's just there.

Just an idea

I couldn't agree more.

Delta covered up the big "W" on the new Western paint scheme. I suspect they will do the same with our big logo. They can keep the tail red.

It's all about branding. They will want the Delta name on everything asap.

The NW logo will be gone. All that will stay is a little sticker by the door that says "Operated by Northwest Airlines" much like each of the Connection carriers have this sticker on their jets.

NW logos, which are stickers, will come off right away. Tail will be painted. The NW paint will remain the same ..for now...but the current Delta treatment will replace the compass in the front.

Straight from the company newswire...

"The current plan is to begin painting Northwest aircraft next year immediately after the peak holiday flying is completed (around the second week in January). We are in the process of determining in what order NWA aircraft will be painted."

Until the aircraft get painted though, I would expect Delta decals will be slapped on NW aircraft. Now whether these decals completely cover the NWA name and logo, I don't know. But, if history repeats itself, you'll start seing this type of interim branding right away like this ex-Western aircraft soon after the merger was approved...

Are the tails on Delta's latest scheme paint, or decals? (or both)
