According to a local Berlin Radio Station easyJet is making some sort of big announcement in Berlin today. According to Berlin Airport Auth. easyJet management sign contacts for the new BBI (Berlin Brandenburg Int. Airport) today.

The new base they are going to announce is Rome Fiumicino (FCO) according to Rome Airport Authorities.

Any ideas what else is the announcement is about?

New Routes to/from Berlin ? (They are stopping Riga/Tallinn/Lyon/Pisa/Heraklion and Ibiza, while only Ibiza, Heraklion and Pisa are coming back for the Summer Season 2009) !!!!

Domestic Flights in Germany?

New Aircrafts for the Berlin Base? (Currently they have 10 but being downsized to 9 for the winter)

I didn't think the new Brandenburg Airport was being opened until October 2011? Which is a long way off for any announcements from EZY I would imagine?

It must just be expansion for Summer 2009!

Remember that next year will be the first year in Easyjet's history where there is not expected to be any growth. Any increase or growth in flying at existing bases or the launch of new bases will come at the expense of existing bases across the network.

Nothing new in that, they've been doing this for a while.

Which means if they open any new base, STN is the most likely to close.

Here's hoping from flights to AMS from FCO!

Perhaps not, if a new base is opened, they may not close another base, just reduce the amount of aircraft based there and transfer them to the new base.

next flights : BD LHR-TXL J, FR SXF-STN Y, SN BRU-LHR Y, MA LHR-BUD Y, BA BUD-LHR J, BA LCY-SNN-JFK J, BA JFK-LHR J, BA

I guess it will be something like that they expect to grow in Berlin and will base new aircraft in Berlin.

It will forever be a McDonnell Douglas MD 80 , Boeing MD 80 sounds so wrong

I meant that any growth at a base will come from the possible closure of another. DTM has been the only easyjet base to close. Expect more IMO.
