Anyone know if Continental Airlines will move to Terminal 1 at Heathrow, now that they are moving to Star Alliance?

When is it exactly that they are moving to Star?

Do you think they will just wait till Heathrow East is built?

CO will move to T1/LHR East at some stage, however, no date has been set.

No date has been defined for CO's move to Star Alliance. CO is still an active member of Sky Team and will be so for some time yet. I'd imagine some time in Q2/Q3 next year might be a reasonable time-frame for transition.

It's possible that CO will wait for LHR East, as it does cost money to move operations to another terminal.

I sure as hell hope that CO dont wait until Heathrow East is built before they come over to T1 as that is not likely to see the light of day until 2012 at the earliest, some 3 years after CO would join Star being, I hope at the end of 2009.
I would assume that UA would handle CO in T1, I suspect the biggest issue might be gates but by that time BA would hopefully fully departed T1 (if not already but I dont think so!?) and that should no longer be an issue.
THe positives of being altogether in T1 and the positives and ease for passengers will, I hope outweigh the financial considerations........time will tell.

BA have a few services with the 757 to places such as NCE, BCN, MAD out of T1, but these should move over to T3 in early 2009.

I think the only issue with T1 at the moment, and even after BA have left, is the lack of wide-body gates. T1 was built as a Domestic & European Terminal and therefore, mainly used by narrow-bodied aircraft such as B737s and A320's. Although the newest pier, the Europier, has gates for widebodies, they are already taken up by NZ, UA, US and the other Star Alliance wide-bodied carriers which are going to move to T1 before Heathrow East is built.

So AA is OneWorld, UA is Star Alliance. CO was SkyTeam and is going to Star Alliance. What American carrier will there be for SkyTeam? This raises a more interesting point. If an alliance was lacking an airline from an important market and this was affecting the performance of the alliance, what would they do? Would airlines jump ship? Does an alliance have the power to attract a desired carrier? How would they do that?

They have DL and NW, CO was always the odd man out in Skyteam.

LGW South to LGW North to LHR T3 to LHR T1....

Have they set up a direct line to Man & a Van Removals Ltd. yet???

Be interested to know how costly moving actually is. I guess much of the ground signage etc... would be duplicated initially. At least if they did move, they would have spare stock from LGW.... maybe.
