Well, i don't know if you know the status on Bornholm Airport right now.

Danish Air Transport stopped operations to/from Bornholm this year because of lack of passengers, which i don't understand because they were clearly the cheapest airline flying to Bornholm. But another problem were also the planes, they had to lease LY-LWH from DOT to cover the last flights and they co-operated with Skyways Sweden to also cover some flights.

LH changed their plane from a CRJ-200 to a ATR-42 to get more seats on the Hamburg - Bornholm - Hamburg route. It is obviously a very popular route, but only flying in the summer season.

Widerøe still flies in summer seasons to Bornholm with a Q300 and recently also a F-50 leased from a dutch company. This is also a very popular route.

QI is still going strong, which i don't understand, because we can't afford the tickets here on Bornholm :P

Every fall, Nazar offers flights to Turkey, which Freebird, SunExpress and Pegasus Airlines operates. It is rumored to go very well.

Thomas Cook Scandinavia offers flights to Spain, Turkey and Greece (i think) with both the A320 and A321

NIKI will also start winterchartes to skiers flying the route MMX - RNN - to problably INN

We have tried to get Skyways Sweden to fly the route ARN/BRM - RNN, but nothing happened. Also Sterling have talked about flying to RNN, but nothing new on this either. QI is talking about starting flights to Poland, probably Szezcin or one of the other Polish destinations which QI already operates.

That's all from me now  Wink

I think the most important reason was that they lost the contract to fly the daily mail for Post Danmark to Bornholm, which was the contributing factor to making the route profitable.

Moreover they faced quite a lot of competition from Cimber, which also proved to be a lot more reliable on this route than DAT.

I can only imagine the cost of operating a route like this with a 737 would be too high. I don't think Sterling would risk this in light of the current situation with the economy going down.

Future flights: CPH-BRU-CPHx2; CPH-BKK-MNL; MNL-GUM-HNL-LAX

Quoting EBGflyer (Reply 1):

It were sad that they lost the contract because now we, here on Bornholm, got our mail much slower than before. I worked at Bornholm Airport for DX where i converted the AT42/72 from PAX to Mail, a very hard job. Another reason they stopped the mail service, is because of the company who did the job of converting the plane, Baltic Air Service, which had a very bad economy.

DX did only have 2-3 departures/arrivals per day, which we didn't like here on Bornholm, QI flies every 2 hours.

Well, i think you are right, the ATR's aren't filled up with passengers. But now that Sterling is bankrupt, it will never be reality  Sad
