Does anyone have any historical information on whether or not non-stop service between North America nad Malta ever occurred. I'm interested in when it may have operated, from which gateway, what carrier and equipment served the route(s).

A very important goal has been achieved this year with the inauguration of services to New York. For the first time Air Malta added a US destination to its route network, operating a B757-200ER trip leased from American Trans Air.

In the late 1990s, Balkan Bulgarian Airlines operated a nonstop flight between MLA and JFK, using a 767-300ER. The flights operated twice weekly and originated and terminated at SOF. That was some time between 1995 and 1997. Weekend packages to NYC from MLA were very cheap, at about 350€. I don´t think the operation was profitable.
In summer of 2001, KM wetleased an ATA 757-200ER that operated twice weekly on the JFK-SNN-MLA route and back, also via SNN. KM lost €1M on this venture.
The info on the KM website is very outdated. I think the info is a copy and paste from some document written about 10 years ago!
