Thats the most logical explination. Im surprised they would go to Waco as opposed to Killeen if it is a charter of troops.

Im flying to Waco in 2 weeks myself. The runways are short though. Didnt know it could handle planes larger than an RJ for that distance.

The aircraft was flying to Waco so it would have been arriving, darn near empty at that range. But even still landing requires far less runway than takeoff and 6600' is plenty for a light 737-800 to land. I have even heard of 747s landing on runways around 7000'. Then plane then took off for Austin which would also be a very light aircraft and surly capable of taking off at Waco.

One mile of highway gets you one mile, one mile of runway gets you anywhere.

I've seen 747s, A340s and 777s land on EWR's runway 11/29 which is 6,800ft.

A lot of military charters from McGuire AFB (near my home) head to Waco, I can't recall seeing one on Flightaware heading to Killeen. How far is Fort Hood from Waco?..
