I have just learned from the Manager of Pan Am at the Orlando/Sanford International Airport that Pan Am (which is starting scheduled service from the Orlando Sanford Airport late September) will be replacing their AGING 727 fleet with some kind of Airbus product (probobly the A320, with extended range fuel tanks), they will use them to fly non-stop from Orlando/ Sanford to Ireland and London!!!!

I think to start transatlantic-services it seems more logical to order/lease a 313/306 or 332 (if they order Airbus). To replace the 727s a mix of 319/320/321 seems a good choice. But we will see. I hope they order some busses.

There are only two US airlines allowed to operate into LHR: AA (Assumed TWA's rights), and United (Assumed Pan Am's rights). LGW is also full, so I am betting that they will fly into London-Stansted...from what I here, there is no wait for STN slots, and access is immediately granted.

Gatwick isn't full. Slot controlled, undoubtedly, but it is still taking new routes and has a fair bit of capacity remaining, certainly enough to take a few flights a day from a small US start-up. It's probably operating at about 80% capacity.

I was at the Westfield, Mass. airshow today (Sunday). I had my scanner with me and I was scanning the frequencies. I heard one flight that identified itself as 'Clipper 210.' Has Pan Am started flying already?

Surely these would be charters? There are many flights from regional UK airports like Leeds/Bradford and Cardiff to Florida in the Summer which often use narrow bodies, mainly 757's. Could this be what they are looking at? Remember they did look at buying DC10's for long haul charter work which they said they were being offered earlier this year. (see www.guildfordrail.com)

Yes, Pan Am has started flying again. I don't where these people are getting the infomation that it's starting out of Orlando. Pan Am has been flying out of Pease State, in New Hampshire (Maine??). Check out: www.flypanam.com.

Pan Am II did not stop flying charters when the part 121 airline(s) went out of business... they have been flying charters all along.
There will be Part 121 scheduled service between Orlando-Sanford and Gary, IN, which is being marketed as an alternative to Chicago's airports, and between Gary and Pease (for Portsmouth, NH) later this year. I have not heard anything about ordering new aircraft other than more 727's.

I think the new Pan Am will go very, very far over time, and may be as big or bigger than the old Pan Am, but will not be a GREAT. The old Pan Am was a legend, a household name, and despite the numerous crashes they had people still love the experiance of flying with them. They had the best service in the skies from what I hear, and it's too bad they're gone. But, the NEW Pan Am does have great potential for being something great, but not as great. With the startup of transatlantic service we have a major turning point for new Pan Am, and if they keep their service up and go out of their way for people, they will grow very quickly.
I belive in the spirit of Pan Am! We are witnessing the rebirth of a great airline! Let's hope it stays that way!

While it would be great to see Pan Am back in the business full time, I think that ordering brand new aircraft from either manufacturer is a mistake. While I am sure that the 727s are not the most economical aircraft a better idea would be to find some almost brand new 737-300s and operate them.

When Pan Am aquires a 747 for domestic service, then I will bow as I did to Panamerican Ariways, the only airline who almost came close to getting the "Flag Carrier" status. My prayers are with PanAmII!
