I had a fairly strange thing happen today with Delta. We had to buy a couple last minute tickets for thursday to go back to CHS for a funeral and decided we would like to try and upgrade using points. When we tried they told us our fare class did not allow for us to use points to upgrade. We are in fare classes K and L. The reason i see this as strange is last year for christmas i was able to upgrade the same fare class using 10K each way, so what are the current rules for using points to upgrade?
Depends on flight length. I'll assume you're doing SAN-ATL-CHS (which would be the most likely routing since you're based out of Carlsbad and going to CHS):
SAN-ATL is $150, ATL-CHS is $50. Good luck on the SAN-ATL flights - SAN-ATL is a popular Medallion route and I've heard stories of several Platinums sitting in coach on this flight. Then again, I've heard off-peak is rather easy for Silvers, so there might be a chance depending on when you fly. I'm doing MSP-ATL-ONT-ATL-MSP this weekend (out Sat, back Sun) and while my MSP-ATL-ONT flights all cleared today at the Gold Medallion window, it looks like I'm sitting in the back on ONT-ATL and will have to clear at the gate for ATL-MSP on Sunday.

Ya the flight is very full on SAN-ATL, my dad and i are completely separate so we will have to see if anyone can switch with us which i always feel bad about asking.
