UA Q2 Domestic Route Performance

The following is a list of UA mainline routes and various performance metrics from Q2 2008. The data is from PAXstats, which sources the T-100 and DB1B databases from the DOT's Bureau of Transportation Statistics.

All financials have been normalized to a 750 mile stage, to allow for better comparisons across routes and carriers. RASM stands for Revenue per Available Seat Mile. Contribution yield is the effective remaining yield upon arriving at the hub. (Read: quality of feeding traffic)
Revenue per departure is listed on a segment and system basis. System revenue is all revenue associated with the listed leg, in one direction. Segment is prorated system revenue.

Well that explains why this route went UX...

Mind you, SFO doesn't look a whole lot better, but unless you are going to Australia, I imagine it is more convenient to fly direct to NRT from SEA and connect to Asia from there so there is likely not a ton of feed on to the SFO TPACs.

Interesting how well IAD-SEA is, but then I expect most TATL traffic from SEA routes through there (I certainly would in a premium cabin since I could enjoy it longer).

Good to see PS doing so well. It's by far my favorite route to fly on UA, especially if you can get an upgrade!

Also, do they have stats for intl travel? I'd be interested to see SFO-HKG and SFO-PEK.

I think there's something else going on. CLT does pretty darn well (granted, US sees higher yields at CLT than at PHX, but still...).

Because ANC does great over the short summer, but is a burden the rest of the year when UA must maintain its staff at the station.

Same with other stations that have been cut recently such as those in Central America GUA and SAL -- both had healthy loads and decent yields however single flights had to feed staff 20-30 at each station. Similarly with BUR which was a UA mainlne station mostly working UAX flights and now can be converted to all UAX staff with mainline flights leaving saving a bundle.

Reasons for flights getting the axe go far beyond simply the segments traffic performance.
