Air Canada Business Class Refits?

How are the refits at Air Canada going? I haven't heard anything in a while and am considering flying to Europe with them as their business class fares and timings are fairly reasonable. The group I go with really likes fully flat seats (and not angled or recliner style) and a business class fare is always preferable to paying for First class. Everyone loves flying through LAX to LHR on Air New Zealand since the seats and service are good, and star alliance miles are appreciated.

Are the Airbus A330s/A340s and 767s converted? Any idea what routes they fly? Will planes remain in the old configuration?

If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

AFAIK, the 767 fleet is finished. The 777 fleet is being delivered in the new seat types (in both cabins)...I can't speak to the A330/A340 fleet. I believe (opinion) that it is ACs intention eventually to withdraw the A330/A340 from its long haul operation, which would mean that the aircraft would not get the new J cabin.

I'll check on the A330/A340 question, but for now, I'd check to see if your flight is operated by an Airbus or a 763 or 777. If it is the latter, then you will have the new cabin and seats...although I've heard rumors that the J seating on the 763 is not going over well...the seat appears to be quite narrow.

Anyone have any thoughts on that???

1. The A330s are not converted yet; the first is expected out of the shop in mid-November
2. The A340s are out of the fleet.
3. All but three 767-300s are converted, and the three that aren't don't usually operate on prime intercontinental routes
4. You are absolutely guaranteed the new cabin on any AC 777
5. You will see 333s this winter on the North Atlantic and to Hawaii. But on many if not most transatlantic routes, at least one flight a day will be a 777 or converted 763.

This is mostly correct, I believe they still have 1 343 that is being used as a spare a/c and doing odd runs due to the strike at Boeing and the 77W that is to come. This aircraft does not and will not have the makeover. As far as I am concerned though, I would prefer the 343 to HKG vs the 77W. I am 6'5'' and the new seats are not long enough for me, the old seats while not lie flat were great!

Keep the shinny side up!

Thanks Sebring! I knew someone would have it right!

Prior to booking your ticket (I assume though a company travel agent) go online and pick the dates/times by booking a fake ticket. The website has a little red star next to flights that have the upgraded planes. Since most of the fleet is converted they schedule the non-xm'ed flights on are pretty consistant on their placement so you probably won't get one.

There are actually two 343's left in the fleet subbing where needed. One made an emergency landing a few days ago in YYT with a sick pax.

Is it flying yet, or waiting for Transport Canada approval?

By the time the OP flies, they'll be gone.

But I don't think it's in service yet. I expect that photo was taken in the hangar. AC internal website shows it due for completion November 2.

Fin 938 is currently parked outside at the Air Canada hangar in YUL on the bridge there. They're still working on it and its not yet operational.
