Hello Everyone,
I was just wondering how far AC has reached in changing their A330 fleet to the reconfigured XM fleet. I had seen one picture in A.net database by Mr. Eric Fortin showing the Excecutive First Suite in the A330. I am planning to fly YYZ - LHR on AC856 on 22Nov. What are my chances of having an XM Project A330 on that route?
Kind Regards,
744

Your chances will be 1 out of 7. There are currently 8 A330s in the fleet. 1 is being allocated to Montreal-Zurich-Montreal flights (temporarily leased to Swiss), and come 22NOV, only 1 A330 will be XM'ed and flying.

Come to think of it, chances might be increased to 1 out of 6, cause by 22NOV, the 2nd A330 will probably be sent in for XM refurbishment.

On a side note, 1 more 767-200 was taken out of service today, making the remaining 1 767-200, 3 767-300 and 7 A333 the only non-XMed aircrafts in the fleet.

Takeoffs are optional; landings are mandatory.

I read somewhere that the first Air Canada XM will be flying on Nov 3rd. Does anyone know which route it would be flying to and the tail number?

You can't until you see the aircraft reg from the boarding gate window. AC is not dedicated FINs to specific routes so it'll be a crap shoot until all are configured.

I have always enjoyed flying on the AC A333's particularly YYZ to YVR. I look forward to trying out the XM versions. I have particularly enjoyed the J Class seats. I can see the laydown pods for long distance overseas flights but am undecided about them still on cross continent flights.

Do you know whether that was related to XMing the aircraft or a "normal" mechanical?

Must have been a "normal" mechanical. AC does not ground aircraft only because the IFE isn't working.

I just checked (1800EST) and AC850 is still scheduled to be fin 938. No indication of any aircraft swaps.

Wow...why does it take so long to add IFE and new seats?

A complete rewire of lighting and passenger systems, new interior panels, refurbished overhead compartments, etc. etc. Other work is also done on the aircraft at the same time.

Ooooops. I wasn't sure which day the original post was refering to. I thought he'd meant Tuesday's flight. It was posted Tuesday morning (0220 eastern time) and there was no YYC-LHR flight on Monday.

Of course, since I work for the airlines myself, not only am I a day late, but I'm also a dollar short.
