It's pretty dormant for now but here are highlights of the November events:

- Corendon Airlines will operate in Iraq for Iraqi Airways for 6 months.
- Regular hadj operations are starting with TK using some 340 lift to carry pax while Onur Air sends A321s and A300s to the desert.
- Still no response from board of directors for TK's wide body order..
- Pegasus to add a new route to their system (Hatay - Ercan) 3 times a week.

-Also what is the latest on this 6/24 runway? News about building a parallel to it?
-TK sends 330s to ORD? What is the reason?
-When is that second JM 340 supposed to join the fleet?

Happy November everyone.

I hear the TK services to Baghdad which commenced last week are off to a good start -- with RT fares from IST being nearly 2000YTL in Y class and 3700YTL in C class !
-- talk about a high yielding route

The route which launched 3x per week will increase to 5x later in the month.

I think you need to ask the THK -- and if they are willing to demolish the 1950s aircraft bunkers in the way.

From what I understand the transport ministry has all the plans ready and is ready to put the project out to bid, but cant unless the Air Force moves.

Anyhow a bigger question is what is the THK doing at IST in 2008 anyhow??

Merhabalar !

I have several questions regarding TK A340 fleet, particularly about the 2 ex-JM A340s.

1. How long is the lease of these 2 a/c for ?

2. What does TK intend to do with TC-JIK and TC-JIJ cabin-wise ?

3. When is the A340 retrofit program due to be over ?

While the rest of the A340 fleet is being retrofitted with a new product and has a F10C24Y237 config, TC-JIK and TC-JIJ will have a different product with a C12YW14Y252 config.
When the A340 retrofit program will be over, all long haul aircraft will have the same product except those 2 ex-JM birds.

Tesekkurler.

BoogyJay,
First of all, where do you get the info that 340s will have F product? Actually this is the second time I hear this. 340s just got done retrofit except the JM arrivals. I doubt that they will get a new retrofit with such short life-span left in some of them (oldest ones are 15 years old). Two class is the way the go for TK.

About your questions:
-exJM 343s will stay till 2014
-I bet the cabins will get an update this winter, after the Hajj season
-All TK 343s have the new interior now, (-JIH is the only one I can't confirm)

Quoting LAXintl (Reply 2):

Ouch!! Maybe they can send 330s and charge a whole lot more for better product.
Do you have any info if the crews volunteer for this, or any extra pay for those legs?
Thanks.

For the A340s, I know they don't have a F product but I just quickly copy-paste the config from planespotters without actually thinking (Apologies). Shame on me !

Otherwise, thanks for your answers.

I was wondering that myself. Do TK crew have the choice not to do Iraqi flights on safety grounds??

- Regular hadj operations are starting with TK using some 340 lift to carry pax while Onur Air sends A321s and A300s to the desert.

AFAIK Turkish CAA did not allow Corendon to lease their A/C to Iraqi Airways, I think they found another customer.

Onur will lease 7 A300 and 4 A321 to Saudia, some will stay for one year in Saudia service. Also Atlasjet and Sky will lease each 5 A/C to Saudia.

Quoting TK787 (Reply 1):
-TK sends 330s to ORD? What is the reason?

I think due to less demand and the recession??

Excellent news, does it also cover the additional insurance cost for Aircraft, Crew and Passengers??
Read recently in an interview with Temel Kotil they will increase to daily this month and targeting double daily.

Read in Ugur Cebecis column that TK or Anadolujet will lease 4 B737-700 until the end of this year and end the leases for some B737-400.
Maybe this is the first of them?

I found it. They are leased for 6 years.

Also two 738s (cn 2733, 2742) have been waiting in green in Seattle, but the strike is over at Boeing. Maybe Bahadir can give us an update on the last 2 738s to join TK this year.

No idea about this 737-700 from SkyEurope to AnadoluJet.

Any idea if:
-All from SkyEurope? I mean Gecas?
-Will TK reregister them? Will TK reconfigure them from Y149 seats?
-For how long?
-How did TK got out of their leases for the 734s?

Thanks.

found this:

Quote:
...THY, filosundaki 4 Boeing 737-400'ü yeni nesil 737-700'lerle değiştirmek üzere anlaşma yaptı. GECAS'dan kiralanan 400 serileri, önümüzdeki aylarda teslim edilecek 2002 ve 2007 model 4 adet 737-700'le değiştirilecek. Toplam 149 koltuk kapasiteli uçaklardan 2007 model olanlar kasım ve aralık ayında alt marka Anadolu Jet'e veriliyor. Düşük kapasiteli meydanlardan uçabilen 700 modelleri, az doluluğun olduğu hatlarda ekonomik operasyon yapabiliyor...

I think only two from SkyEurope, both 2007 built, as SkyEurope want to return two 737-700 to Gecas.
The other two are 2002 (?) built also through Gecas but dont know the former Airline.
Guess all will be TC-registered as they want to swap with 4 737-400. Dont know if for the remaining leasing time of the 737-400s or another 6(?) years?

Thanks TKfan,
As far as I know, 3 734s have leases till 2013, 6 734s till 2015. I wonder which ones make up that four.
They should get rid of all of them, while newer frames are avail. all around, and before the world economies make a come back.

This might happen as Airbus and Boeing have to offer also a good interim solution until 2010 when the deliveries will begin. there are plenty second hand 737NG and A32X waiting for new customers. Should be not a problem to include Gecas to this deal.

Came across this:

http://www.arkitera.com/h35718-3-havaalani-icin-yer-begenilecek.html

"İstanbul'a kurulması planlanan 3. havalimanı için kolları sıvayan hükümet, atacağı adımları bir takvime bağladı. İlk olarak yer seçimi aralık sonuna kadar bir sonuca bağlanacak. Ancak yer seçiminde, 'İstanbul'un gelişim planlarıyla uyumlu olacak şekilde ulaşım ve imar planları çerçevesinde yeni bir havalimanı için gerekli asgari fiziksel şartları taşıma' önemli rol oynayacak." ... "Yer konusunda başta Çorlu olmak üzere bazı isimler gündeme getirilmişti. İstanbul'a yakınlığı ve coğrafi konumu itibarıyla öne çıkan Tekirdağ'ın sanayileşmiş ilçesine, İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediye Başkanı Kadir Topbaş da destek çıkmıştı."...

According to the 2009 work programme of the government, the location for the third airport of Istanbul will be chosen until December....

Regards,

I don't know where i saw it but i think it has a tight Y section and very few C seats.
This would be a perfect combination for Hajj flights and for low yielding markets like LOS or European worker destinations like DUS.
