NWA Pulling Out Of DFW In 60 Days?

Is NWA pulling out of DFW in 60 days?

Last night several NWA ramp employees were discussing that they were
told they had 60 days to decide if they wanted to transfer to another city
or retire. From what they were talking about...they were told that DFW has
not been a "positive" revenue operation for NWA.

A FMC Jetway worker said he had also heard that from other NWA employees.

Anyone with further information because we have not heard anything like that
at Delta...at DFW.

If I had to guess- I would say that "Delta" might be taking over under the wing operations at DFW, and that there may not be enough jobs for both "Delta" and "NWA" employees. Though NWA is part of Delta, employee groups will not be combined for awhile.

Well....that's what I was thinking, but right now, Delta's ramp in DFW is ran by ATS and their
employees were told their contract for providing Delta ramp service would be terminated
sometime in late 2009. DFW will be one of the last cicties to merge the DL/NWA operations.

Oh please!!! This more likely has to do with the DL merger. The idea that NW would cease serving one of the top business markets in the USA is ridiculous

I dont think any station is revenue positive for any airline right now.

Under the terms of our CBA at NW, DFW is to remain staffed. They haven't come anywhere close to going under the flight threshold needed to stay open.

On top of that, according to a memo we (at NW) received on the 15th, since DL's ramp is outsourced, and NW's is not, the NW ramp will take over both operations as soon as "operationally feasible."

I cannot see NW or NWAirlink pulling out of DFW. I three times I flew in and out of DFW on NW the loads were somplace around 85% or higher. Perhaps the post means the present employees may be replaced.
There is more news coming, I'm sure.

I can almost bet that an airline has at least one station which makes money. I really hope your joking.  Wink

Considering that NW nearly launched DFW-LGA service (Although this was more of a retaliation against AA for the MSP service, which ironically has turned out to be one of AA's lowest yielding routes), and the economics of DFW, there is no way this could be true. What could happen though now the merger has been approved, would be for some of the DFW flights to MSP and DTW to be switched to DL metal, which would allow DL to get around the NW ground handlers scope clause. I wouldn't think combining ops in DFW would be difficult, since NW moved in to be with a skyteam alliance. If there are airlink flights, maybe they would be shifted to the ATL based delta planes for Pinnacle.

I was just in DFW today. Not a single employee said a thing.

Not a single thing.

I initially misread the topic as "NWA pulling out of DTW in 60 days" and was surprised that there were so few replies on the thread ! that's what comes of skimming anet in the small hours when you are not really functioning properly Big grin

I am pretty sure that they wont actually pull out of DFW ( or DTW for that matter  Wink ) but rather that the ground handling may be realigned at this and many other stations to avoid duplication ... of course given the fact that my brain and body are currently misaligned by about 4 hours I could be as wrong about this as I was in my initial take on the thread

Well after talking to several people who would know the "real" behind the scenes at DFW...it appears these folks who said this at NW might have been spreading rumors or just trying to start some issues.

This is what is great about A.net....lots of people can verify whats really going on amongst rumors...and this industry has lots of those!

Thanks for all the replies!

That goes with the word we have been hearing too. Where ever there is NW staffing and no DL the will take over where ever there is DL staff and no NW we will take over. To limit the outsourcing costs. (see thread on NRT)
