I was woundering, what city are cargo flights coming from or going to when they arrive or depart ORF? I know Fed EX has a 727 depart in the morning and two at night, UPS 757 depart at night same for the DHL DC-9. If any have any info on this, please post it?

PS: Those loud Fed EX 727s, are my favorite planes to watch take off from ORF, closely followed by AA and DL MD-80s.

Most likely their respective hubs. MEM for FedEx, SDF for UPS. and ILN (actually the hub of ABX Air if its DC-9s) for DHL.

Same for the ABX DC9's. Regardless of what transpires with the current "restructuring" the DC9's are very soon to be history.

The DHL(ABXAir) DC-9's would come in from and depart to ILN (Wilmington, OH). I don't work for DHL anymore so I can't check it in the system. I would really take in seeing those DC-9's as, if rumors persist, the ILN hub may close within the next month and DHL is pulling back from US Domestic shipping as remaining customers have/will be notified that it will be effective 12/01/2008.

****Again this is all rumor so please do not read into my post as scripture, I have reliable sources still with DHL but it is just rumor.****

Off topic, but will happen to the airport in Wilmington (ILN)? It's strictly a landing field for cargo planes and there is no passenger terminal. No passenger carrier would ever consider flying there as it is too close to DAY and CVG.

My guess is that it would go back to whatever it was before DHL got there. What kind of answer are you looking for?

My guess is that it would most likely become an abandoned field as it was a decommissioned military installation when Airborne Express bought it. DHL would move back to CVG into their old building and ILN would become an empty airport.
