Today at 10:00pm, RDU plans a big announcement on "air service". Anyone have an idea? It must be an international flight or new carrier because added or new domestic flights do not get this kind of press. Any ideas???

I was wondering if it might just be that Northwest will move to Terminal 2 with Delta...

Although that would not be "major" news to me, it would be a change in plans for Terminal 2.

I like to think it will be a new airline(Frontier, Virgin America), or a new International flight (Delta bringing back Cancun...with LAX service as well),

Truth is it could be a lot of things.

In Yesterday's news, GSK announced that they are making RTP the official NA HQ. No longer will Philadelphia share it. Perhaps AA is going to bring back PHL, and maybe go International with another flight?

Is RDU-CDG within the range of a DL or NW ETOPS-ready 757?

Can passenger jets fly as fast as my feet do? Let's find out...

Barely, but yes. West-bound during the winter might have problems; but if the route were to be summer-only, then that's irrelevant.

It's about 100 miles longer than EWR-TXL, definetly some issues during the Winter.

So by the end of the day the list could be up to PHL(if you want to call it that), PIT, and RDU as new DL destinations from CDG

If the RDU flight is CDG, it's a no brainer because RDU already has the subsidy for the flight so it could leave empty and still break even. I don't know about PIT, but this would be a big milestone if it's true.. and it should stay around for hte long term like the LHR flight (crosses fingers)..

I would need to hide the existance of this flight from my wife.  Smile

It would be nice to see another international destination at RDU. The subsidy would be nice, but I think it would also offer some great connections for RDU businesses to connect to Air France's network as well.

Looks like it will be a 757-200

"
The flight, which will begin in June 2, 2009, will be direct from RDU to Charles deGaulle International Airport. Delta will use Boeing 757-200 aircraft, which carry up to 174 passengers."

Delta's announcement of RDU CDG and PIT CDG is already discussed in the following thread:

http://www.airliners.net/aviation-fo...general_aviation/read.main/4203952

Please concentrate the discussion over at that thread so we can avoid too much overlap.
