Aeroméxico To London Before Mexicana? 16.12.08?

According to Gatwick's Winter 2008/2009 seasonal report we have the following information:

http://80.168.119.219/UserFiles/File...SEASONAL%20REPORT-%20LGW%20W08.pdf

Aeroméxico officially starts LGW:

Commence MEX service 3pw on days 246 starting 16DEC using type 762.

This are no news for me, in fact, this is the reason why MX is going only 4X as AM had authorized 3X from the government, but they're starting December 16th 2008 and still flights have yet not been loaded., this is also a month earlier vs Mexicana. I knew AM was launching flights on March 2009. Anyone has more information?

Also this goes on par to all new modifications their long haul flights that will have an effect this December 2008, as some cancellations in MTY are expected in order to reinforce MEX operations.

What's going on in LGW? Is AM moving fast to start the 16th???

I wonder whether AM is able to succeed without a partner like BA.

Flights would be eventually operated from MEX on Mo, We & Fr starting on Dec 15th, so the frequencies between MEX and LON would increase from 4X to 11X by Feb.

Excellent news, Ghost!

MX plus AM take BA head on. AR and RG ended up droping MEX, and DL is droping MEX from MCO.

From a wider view Mexico (that is AM plus MX) loves flying:

MEX-EZE
MEX-MCO
MEX-GRU
MEX-LGW
MEX-MAD

They know each other from almost everywhere: MEX... ACA... TIJ... CUN... MID... GDL... MTY... JFK... LAX... ORD... MIA..., etc.

The Eagle Knight-king and the Eagle-M-queen know each other from their guts out.

What next? MX to CDG, BCN, FCO, NRT, PVG, SEA, SYD? AM to HAV, back to GUA(ouch), back to BOG, back to CCS, SFO, ICN, SVO?

This is what I call competition and I love it.

For SANFAN´s unrest: Now you can see how intelligent it is for AM to apply without actually flying the route? They have mighty Mexicana next to them and they know her well.

Long live the "q"ueen. Mexicana, that is.

When exactly are both MX and AM starting flights to London and which airports will both carriers be using in London?

where is aeromexico going to get the aircraft from??? Their widebody fleet is small, and they're launching services to Asia, South America and Europe. No idea how they're making work with that fleet.

If I'm not mistaken, their fleet is 4 777s and 4 or 5 767s

If this happens, EXCELLENT news.

It seems they are delayed until march 09, just tried to check on Shares and nothing loaded, and it´s kinda late if they want to start flying to LGW/LHR on Dec.

Working for ACL at LGW I can confirm that AM will NOT be starting services at LGW any time soon. When the seasonal report was written by ACL, AM were holding slots!

Up until about 1 week ago they held slots to start 3x weekly on the 16th December but have since cancelled them.

We can't keep updating the report with all the changes that are going on at LGW at the moment! We can only write it as a snapshot at a particular point in time.

MX will start 2X weekly in Jan 2009, increasing to 4X weekly in Feb 2009.

Hope this clears things up for our Mexican friends!

Boo. Too bad.

Anyway, I hope AM goes ahead with its plans to add one or two more 777s in 2009.

Ghost, do you know what is in the cards for AM with respect to European destinations in 2009? I wonder if you have news on possible new cities, frequency increases, etcetera.

Next flights: MEX-GRU (AM 77E), GRU-GIG (JJ A320), SDU-CGH (G3 73H), GRU-MEX (JJ A332).

Well I think it's just magical how our airlines are fighting for their honor in the middle of the economy crisis. I must admit it's very interesting to hear AM starting LGW just before MX. Hopefully all airlines will succeed and we can presume of having more presence in the international market.

Thanx, not the news I wanted but oh well. Their widebody fleet is streched as it is anyway.

Is Aeromexico really going to fly to Moscow or is it a Code Share with Delta??

MX service to LGW twice per week? Gee, that does not make sense...who is going to rely on such a limited schedule, not full fare business travelers for sure (that's were the $$$ is). Good luck MX but only low fare yield customers would support that route even if it goes up to 4 per week plus on a small outdated 762, what a shame!!!

One new city is expected besides LON (if they ever opened it) seems they have canceled all attempts to get there by December 08 as planned. AFAIK, LON was for March of 2009.

PRAirbus,

AM has 3X authorized by the British government and bilateral allows 7X at the most from each side.

The B767-300s will be here only one more year, by 2010, MX will add more A330s. And B767-200ER will be here for 3 years at the most or less...

By no means. They're not THAT crazy. As for codesharing I don't know but I doubt it.

And it appears that the new destination being planned will be Frankfurt. This means that just like Rome, AeroMexico plans to resume service since they dropped the destination back in 1995 after the Tequila crisis.

It starts at twice per week but within a month of starting it will increase to a 4X weekly service.

The plan is to add frequency during Summer 2009 and it may even end up being daily by the end of March, which would be a very good new service for LGW.

LH MEX-FRA is already serving the market and taking the advantage of onward connections once at FRA.
The success of the possible AM MEX-FRA will be focused exclusively on the O&D demand in Germany.
It seems that AM will struggle in order to make the route profitable and the visualization of 7x weekly flights looks like compulsory in order to face the daily 744 in such route.

Regards.

LH499 is always full, not seats available any day, and from LH comments, it´s oversold almost everyday, so with AM/MX on the route, it´ll be more seats available, and the market can afford 2 or even 3 airlines on the MEX-Germany market, LH even operated 2 744´s daily, the market that should be keep in mind is the MTY-FRA, as MX sends about 50% of LH499, because of the business operating in MTY.

Yay! I wonder, however, if FRA was the best choice in Germany. It is true that Frankfurt is home to many banks, insurers and the Deutsche Boerse, and therefore is the financial capital of the country. However, Munich is a much larger city, in a very prosperous region, and home to a substantially larger population, lots of industrial concerns, funds, technology corporations, etcetera. From a tourism point of view, I am sure Munich and its surroundings is far more interesting than Frankfurt. More important, MUC has no non-stop service to MEX, whereas FRA already has 1 daily 744 service.

In addition, I understand that FRA is very congested and, as I result, I would assume it must be an expensive airport for airlines.

Anyway, I am stoked to see AM considering Germany.

I agree. FRA is not a SkyTeam hub, so there will not be many connecting opportunities. In any case, I wish AM well. I hope they find more 777s so that AM can relaunch Germany non-stop with a 777.

Next flights: MEX-GRU (AM 77E), GRU-GIG (JJ A320), SDU-CGH (G3 73H), GRU-MEX (JJ A332).
