That's great news ! I'm supposed to fly on the A380 on December 22nd (flight EK001 DXB-LHR). I'm really looking forward to experiencing both the A380 and the new Terminal 3 at Dubai airport.

Wow, it looks like LHR is becoming A380 central. Congrats to EK and LHR for the upgrade on the route. It certainly gives Londoners plenty of options to fly the whalejet on a few different airlines.
How many A380 gates and how many terminals are A380 ready at LHR?

This is fairly old news, although according to the Emirates website, they start sending two A380s a day to LHR for a few weeks from 2nd January, with EK3/4 becoming A380-800 operated as well as the original EK1/2.
Quoting Sketty222 (Reply 10): Just a query but in Amadeus EK's flights only show a J and Y class cabin on the LHR-DXB route whereas the DXB-JFK-DXB flights show F, J and Y.
All of EK's London flights are three-class, regardless of aircraft type.

Terminal 3 has a new A380 wing with 4 gates specially made for A380's. This is where the Singapore Airlines A380 have been parking.

Great news!
But is it known yet when EK will receive their first ones of the other two configurations? There's suppose to be another 3-class config with 517 seats and a 2-class with 604 seats.

Oh I didnt ask them that. I got a brochure but I doubt it would say in that. The only way will be to see whats loaded class wise in the GDS.

EK on its internal system A380 was initially showing as 14/76/399
As the A380 entered service that number went down to 396 in Y
Looking at JFK schedules it would appear that some flights to JFK are showing capacity of 386 in Y while the next day it is showing 376 in Y
Not quite sure whats going on with varying seating capacities on the 3 A/C as im not in any way involved with the A380
This could be due to the rumour that bunks have been increased as crews were apparently getting 2.30hrs rest as opposed to 3.30hrs on DXB/JFK due to a shortage of bunks.
Ill be very interested to see how further aircraft will be configured, will the showers stay?? ive heard not many people are using them and they are a maintenance nightmare. Will the bars stay?? surely they can fit in another 10 J class seats, very unlike EK when they can cram 442 onto a 77W.

QF have full 5th freedom rights from JKT, SIN, BKK, HKG & BOM to Europe, also from LAX, SFO & JFK. The US, BOM & JKT rights are not currently being used.

The A380 was designed to serve hub airports where there are slot restrictions.
