Quoting 747400sp (Thread starter): I was wondering, what are the advanage and disadvanage of working for a charter airline, instead of a mainstream airline.
Well, if you mean charter as in business jets, opposed to Omni or the likes, then I can help a little bit. I worked in charter ops many years ago, and it definitely had its ups and downs. I had the opportunity to meet many important figures, from movie stars and athletes to successful businessmen. Work was always interesting and things could change on a moment’s notice. I once had the chance to taxi a Lear 60 from the left seat on a maintenance repo, and jumpseat on a Lifeguard flight to rural Nebraska. Like any job, I still had to work pretty hard, but even then, I enjoyed giving several business jets a bath. The only downside was, as the new guy, I was "on call" often. I remember 3am phone calls telling me I "needed to have 123AB ready for departure by 0400." I also missed an Easter supper and family member’s graduation.
