JAL Japan Airlines has announced that it will re-introduce its second daily service into London-Heathrow.

JL403/4 will be introduced replacing the current Osaka service (JL421/422).

Osaka will end on 28th March 2009 with the second daily rotation to Narita commencing on the 29th.

Good news for London considering LHR-JAPAN has seen a reduction of services in recent years. JAL had previously dropped their second daily rotation, and BA is dropping some of its flights into Tokyo.

Isn't it funny, the southeast airlines fly to more of Europe then teh two more established Japanesse airlines. For JAL Its LHR, CDG, AMS and FRA, its seems to have developed and allergy to Italy, Switzerland and Spain.

There is still a substancial capacity drop when you consider that JAL used to fly 2 747-400's a day on NRT-LHR.

Isn't funny, is business........Japan-Europe is O&D on the Japan side, since there are no connections beyond Japan while in SE Asia there are strong/large hubs (SIN, BKK, KUL) that get feed into their european networks from Oz/NZ/Indonesia/Phlipines/Vietnam/etc.

IIRC, JLserves MXP, FCO and ZRH (not sure wether they have been dropped recently or not)

Don't know about MXP and FCO, but JL unfortunately stopped serving ZRH at least two years ago.

I never said it was. Just said it is good news as it was assumed that JL would only retain a single daily operation. KIX axed was anounced before the 2nd daily NRT return.

JAL serves CDG, FRA, MXP, FCO, AMS, DME and LHR in Europe with Zurich recently now gone. (excluding charter operations)

ANA serves less destinations in Europe with the big three; CDG, FRA and LHR only being served.

Agreed. JAL only realistcally offers onward connections within Japan and to some extent Korea, Taiwan and China. Infact on the UK site you can only book onward connections within Japan.

Although they may not sell it on their website, JL also has pretty good connections LHR-SYD via NRT, about a 4 hr connection. Elapsed time only 2 to 3 hrs longer than direct flights with a stop at BKK/SIN/HKG, and the routing via NRT is less than 200 nm further. KE also sells Europe-Australia via ICN.

So who if anybody is likely to pick up LHR-KIX? NH, VS or BA?
Perhaps a bad time to be starting a new longhaul route but how about the future?

This JL403/404 will only be re-introduced to keep the slots....
When the B787-8 is in service with JL, the KIX route will return on the schedules.
