The Chairman of the Cyprus Tourism Organisation has announced today during an interview at the World Travel Market (tourist fair taking place in London) that CTO is in advanced negotiations with EZY for the commencement of flights from at least LWG and MAN to LCA. No final decisions have been taken yet by the company however there are strong indications that this will eventually happen. The idea of flights to LCA came after easyhotels decided to open the first hotel on the island a few kilometres away from LCA airport.

If flights to LCA are to commence, they will be in addition of the established routes to PFO.

Additionally the CTO Chairman mentioned that he had discussions with Monarch who mentioned that there is a high possibility of more flights to the island during the coming summer period.

Well the Monarch ones are on sale from BHX , at least, so we shall see. I myself would prefer to fly MONarch to EASyjet. In flight meals are better and you can book your seat number and also they have legroom seats aplenty

There are all at additional cost though.

Although I am a great fan of Easyjet I really don't think their cabin is suitable for such a long route. 4-4.5 hours in an easyjet cabin would drive anyone mad.  Silly

Obviously more seats are vital for Cypriot tourism but I am concerned that the new routes started "one summer too early". The new terminal at LCA will be opening exactly in a year's time and I can't see the old shed being able to cope even with the smallest increase in passenger numbers as it is already running over its capacity.

Hi

I am not all surprised that EZY woill start flights from both LGW and MAN to LCA next summer with XL now gone from both airports it makes sense during the height of summer XL would perhaps have up to 5 rotations a week in to LCA, maybe EZY should talk to some of the smaller UK based cypriot tour operators and see if they want an allocation of seats?
Just a thought!!

That's a good point. I completely forgot the gap created by the loss of XL.

I suspect a lot of them will use ZB, who would provide stiff compeition for EZY at LCA. They have developed from an initial Luton service to add LGW, MAN and as already mentioned BHX. However I'm sure Easyjet and ZB could co-exist, but ZB, with their charter origins, would probably be the ones working most with the travel trade

I absolutely agree with you but I have seen ZB/MON scale their charter operations down over the past few years seem more interested in sending their A320/A321's down to mainland spain/balearics 3 times a day in the peak of summer, i mean if they did a LCA run that aircraft would only probably be able to do 2 rotations that day beacuse of the flight time between UK-Cyprus

But, in a way, their charter operations to LCA have been substituted with quite frequent scheduled flights. I guess they still sell seats to tour operations on these flights (similarly to ECA)

Monarch's LGW/LTN/BHX/MAN-LCA services are scheduled. They are year round and BHX excepted at least 4xWeek in summer IIRC. Im not sure what on board product differences there are between charter and scheduled but if you look on Monarch's website you will see these are scheduled services in the same way as TFS, AGP, GIB, BCN etc are

I did LTN-LCA earlier this year on ZB. The Y cabin was extremely cramped and I swore I would never do it again. I'd rather pay the extra and fly CY or BA out of LHR. The ZB flight ws not cheap by any standard. It was really uncomfortable.

You have to buy everything on board or have it pre-paid and booked. It's very much like an easyjet flight except even more cramped.
