from airlinersonline.com;

Pakistan International Airlines-PIA(Karachi) appears to have modified their colour scheme again. In 1999 their colour scheme was a White fuselage with a Green tail with a flowers motif.

In 2000 they kept the White fuselage and the Green tail but eliminated the flowers motif from the tail.

For 2001 they appear to be going back to the Green underside with large titles(only on 747s) and Green tail(a bit like Air India going back to their old colour scheme).

p.s the weird part is I just mailed the airlines MD today requesting him to choose one of the two schemes or opt for a complete new look as the multiple styles being sported by PKs aircraft gave the company a bad image, glad thats been decided now Smile

Interesting indeed... I recall seeing the 747-300 with a white flowers motif as well back in Summer 1999 at the maintenance hangar in Hong Kong. That was when Cathay Pacific readied them for PIA.

The flower motif annd the white fuselage was soooo nice. They should have rolled it out across the whole fleet

Oh, I thought you were gonna say they're bringing back the floral design tails.

Are all of the planes in the white fuselage design???

I was thinking it was only the 743s leased from CX.

What I would have really liked to see would have been the green tail with flower motif and the green underside . I was not to happy with the present scheme and I think that they are making a good decision to just go back to the original scheme.

Finally an airline has the guts to turn back a poor scheme. They combined now the best of two. Hurray for PIA's board; a victorie for Pakistan. Come on SwissWings and others, let do it too! What about South African and Qantas? They should look much better with a colour on their fuselages, they have such amazing good evergeen taildesigns.

I for one am really happy that they've reverted to the colourful previous scheme, though its not the best but much better than the pseudo sophisticated "Blanco" livery, wonder if the 747-300s will get to wear it since their lease expires next month and they may be returned to Cathay Pacific, the floral design was good but only on the white fuselage scheme I dont think it would suit the previous livery, would make it too busy looking and thats not good as far as design is concerned, I wouldve preferred the floral tail on a grey belly like in Swissairs livery or a polished belly, but for me the best livery design for PIA would involve lots of Green like the whole upper fuselage Aer Lingus style, the floral design would've looked great on that, well glad to know that colours are back for PIA Smile

p.s want to mention here that i wrote the letter to the MD with no knowledge of this bit of news.

According to me, I believe that their 1990s livery is much better since it makes PIA somewhat standout in a crowd. Sure, the new livery is beautiful but still, it was like all other airlines. I believe, which is impossible, they should go back to their 1980s livery. Oooh Yeaah.

The 70's livery you mean, it was introduced in the mid 70's and carried till 1991 as the aircraft were being repainted in the green belly scheme, was OK for its time but definitely outdated now, sadly the Green belly livery also looks very 1980s, even though its just 10 years old, I think they should opt for a complete new look after the proposed privatisation in 2002, by the way I just saw a freshly painted 747-200 in the reverted(Green belly)scheme fly over head and it looked beautiful Smile

The White out scheme was also applied to some A300s, A310s, 747-200s, 737-300s and F27s maybe it was just applied to one aircraft of each type, besides the 743s Smile

Same as on the other big aircraft, i also think painting the engines Green to blend in with the underbelly would look great Smile/happy/getting dizzy

When can we expect PK to announce their plans for fleet renewal?

The A330-200 would make a fine replacement for the A300s if they want a slight increase in capacity. Yes an A332 in PIA colours makes great sense and it would look nice too!!  Smile

I believe that their scheme is not better than their old ones. PIA is doing the right thing...at least to make it more noticable in a huge crowd.
And as for the privitization part, I believe that Govt. would keep it...one of their source to make revenue when PIA earns profit.
They should replace their 737s with their current A310s, A330s with A300s.
