Do You Have Photos Of Your First Jet Ride?

How many people here know the registration number of the first jet they ever flew on, and do you collect photos of that jet continously?

Mine was N469AC with Air California in April 1974 from SJC-SNA for a first trip to Disneyland. My oldest brother worked at Air California at SJC at the time, and if I remember correctly, it cost us each $6.00/one way per ticket on his discount for a family of 6.

Anybody else?

I think the first time I flew was in 1991, I was a wee lad then. I believe it was DAL, an L-1011 from BOS-SFO.

Yes, and the picture has the date of Sept '73 and the plane was 737-247. The registeration is blurred but what I see seem to be N4518W at PIR. (Pierre, S.D., USA)

Alien,

Somewhere I have a shot of me standing on the ramp next to a smiling PSA B727 @ SJC just before my first ever plane ride. It was in 1970 from SJC to LAX. My first small plane ride came a year later at SQL. That ride was in an Ercoupe (a little 2 seater with a twin tail and no rudder pedals) I have photos of that flight as well.

For my daughter I have photos from here first ever plane ride when she was only 4 months old. Frontier B737-200 (N214AU) from SFO to DEN.

Although this was far from being her first ride, here is a shot from last week take at ORD just before departure to SJC:

I was lucky enough to fly on my first jet again 10 years later and take fotos.
My first flight was a non-stop from Zurich-New York in 1985 and I flew the exact same plane (747-357 HB-IGC)
on the exact same flight in 1995. That is when I took the photos.

Ok,,and all who have answered, do you actively seek photos of that plane for your collection, or buy them at airliner collectible shows, or trade them through the US Mail or On-line?

Do Richards photo links work yet?

Richard, what was the reg number on that PSA 727?

I usually try to keep up on tracking of all Western's planes by thru datebases via internet. I do find some photos of those ex-Western Airlines aircrafts that are currently flying but I much would like to see some photo just before being axed into pieces. I havent seen any latest photo of N4518W, though, and would like to see it someday.

Tom,

Not sure why my photo links are not working. If I type in the address manually they work. If I try to link from airliners.net, it does not work. Huummmm. Must be some kind of Alien curse or something. And to answer your question, no I do not know the reg # of the plane. I wish I did. I would love to see where that old girl is today, 30 years later.

Richard

Sorry, no photo. It was the start of a rather ordinary working day on a dark winter morning in 1971 and the plane was an SK DC-8-55.
Pretty nice bird, when the sun rose, and probably the fastest plane I have ever experienced.
Best regards, Preben Norholm

I flew YYZ-FRA on a Lufthansa 707 when I was just 6 months old in 1968. I wish my parents had taken a snapshot.

My first flight was on a TIA DC8 from Malta to Toronto, via Shannon. It was the 23 July 1973. I have pictures of the aircraft on the apron in Malta before departure. I think the registration was N4864T, but I cannot confirm this (the reg'n does not show on my picture). I will give an arm and a leg to find out for sure which one of the 6 (I think) TIA DC8's it was. I was only 13 then.

Very nice answers, everybody. It's interesting to see the different age brackets of when people first flew. It's also interesting to see how it affects them, and how much they might become attached to a certain jet.

I was lucky enough to have had my first photo in front of a jet and with luck, the front wheel was visible in the photo, otherwise, I wouldn't have know either.
