Today at the Bocconi University, SEA and MITRE presented the project for the third runway for MXP. It will be an indipendet runway with the same orientation of the other two runway.

Are the other two runways so busy that they require a third one?

G'day

The existing runways are parallel, however their spacing is not sufficient to allow fully independent operations.

Cheers

New runways are a rare sight these days so this is always good news; those links are quite interesting, thanks! What MXP needs right now is decent terminal facilities, but given the time new runways take nowadays it never hurts to start planning for one...

they are expanding the Terminal one. The new part will have a different design compared to the other 2 section, for example the Security Check will be on the same level of the check in. I want to remeber that MXP is the only airport that can host the A380 in italy. (they need only to upgrade the finger to reach the 2nd floor. But it takes 2 days to do it.)

The need isn't that big right now. Especially not considering the ca 20% drop in passengers that MXP will experience this year.

Yes but since january LH italia will start to operate from MXP(rumors about a star Alliance HUB) and Emirates, Ethiad and Singapore are expanding their route to MXP. Rumors says that singapore will start a daily A380 in 2010, but these are just.. rumors...
