Ive noticed that DL is going from 752 to 738 on alot of transcon routes. Mainly, I noticed LAX-JFK.
How do these 2 aircraft compare? I am talking everything from comfort to economics.
I was bummed to find that I am on a 738 both ways in a couple of weeks. I love the 752. I will be in F, so I dont think there will be a huge difference.

No difference in F - I've taken about 8 DL 757s in F this month and about 4 DL 737s in F this month and you can't really notice a difference in terms of passenger experience.
Biggest thing is getting a plane with the PTVs - makes a big difference. The non-PTV DL 737s have LCD flip down screens while the non-PTV 757s have CRTs that are in bad shape in many cases, but that's it. Fortunately for me, most of my flights have been the PTV planes lately...

The 752 and 738 have very similar cabins, both in F and in Y. All the transcon aircraft (752 and 738) have Panasonic eFX AVOD with live TV. The 752 is just higher up and may have a slightly wider cabin - someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I was under the impression that only a few 738s have PTVs yet? The one I recently flew on ATL-SLC had none...
that said, I prefer the 757 in terms of passenger comfort.... I know it's supposed to be of the same size, but for me the 757 feels roomier anyway. Plus, you have those nice exit seats in Y at doors 2L and 2R - a huge plus compared to the 737 imho.

Quoting Panamair (Reply 6): 28 of the 71 have the AVOD PTVs.
Correct, 28 of them have it. These are the 28 used for transcon flights. The rest are for shorter domestic flights. Sure, it's possible that you can get one with no AVOD, but LAX-JFK should most defiantly get them. ATL-SLC - not so high of chances.

I am partial to the 757 myself just as I like that plane better all around. As for the space inside they both have similar space except to me the window seat on the 737 the wall seems to curve and cause me a tall person lean a little to the middle.

I flew JFK-SEA 7 times r/t so far this year. I have almost always had the ptv/s on both the 752 ans 738's. On a few legs I got the old aircrfaft and that was during the summer, so that was a bit of a surprise. But I did a an int'l 752 which was a nice treat.

Quoting Jhooper (Reply 8): I'm surprised the 737 has legs like that; wow!
Why, that's nothing.
During the Summer CO flies IAH-ANC nonstop with a 737-800, thats 3,268 miles. About 1,000 miles further than NY-LA.

I've flown Continental IAH-SEA, IAH-YVR, IAH-YYC, and IAH-ANC. These are all nice and long 738 routes. But back in Jan-Feb 2005 when I was making this circuit, IAH-ANC made a tech stop at SEA.

To me, the 757 seems bigger. I know the dimensions are "supposed" to be the same. But the 737 seems a bit more snug, especially on long flights. I flew CO SNA-EWR this summer in F and it seemed so small! this also has to do with the fact that the F cabin is much smaller than on the 757.

So, when did they drop the tech stop?
During the Summer months IAH-ANC goes nonstop, 737-800. Go to CO.com and look up flights from IAH-ANC in the Summer, it's there.

I'll miss that stop--brief as it was. I had just enough time to leave the plane, buy a Seattle-Times out of a green kiosk in C concourse, and then return to the plane in time for the door to close.

The one downside to the 737-800s in First Class is the narrowing of the fuselage in Rows 1-2. That first overhead bin can't hold a rollaboard wheels/handles in, thus making it be placed sideways. All the bins of the 757 can handle a 22" wheels/handles first.
