Well, it's been over a month since the NW-DL thing became official, and we still haven't heard anything official on Continental's move to Star Alliance.
What's the story?
I'm looking on booking tickets this spring to Europe on SkyTeam... but if CO won't be in SkyTeam at that time, then my plans need to change.
The original opinion around here was that CO would join Star nine months after the "official" announcement of the merger.
Yet all I've picked up is that Delta is suing Conti for trying to switch.

3rd or 4th Qtr of 2009, and no DL is not suing CO for leaving Skyteam.

Then what's it about? Is it about the joint venture with UA? That's what the topic yesterday indicated.

Trying to force LH to relinquish their stake in B6, amongst other complaints.

Seems like the deal on path for final approval.
From internal news prior to Thanksgiving.
Late yesterday afternoon, the U.S. Department of Transportation set the timetable for final consideration of our application for Continental to join the group of nine Star Alliance carriers that already hold antitrust immunity and to start a trans-Atlantic joint venture among United, Lufthansa and Air Canada. We have been working closely with the DOT, and are in the home stretch of this process.
This is another significant milestone for us and brings us closer to being able to develop extensive codesharing with United in the U.S., compete well with other alliances and pool our international passenger revenues across the Atlantic. Once awarded anti-trust immunity, we can work with our partners to operate as a single carrier on these international services, delivering more travel options and better competing with our competitors.

It can't happen soon enough. I much prefer CO to UA domestically in First Class, but since I credit to LH M&M, I'm "stuck" with UA (who are not bad, but they're not CO). I used to credit CO flights to AS, but now that I only fly F and J, I cleaned out my AS balance on an award ticket and moved to UA.

Quoting AA1818 (Reply 6): Did CO and UA apply for ATI/ Codeshare rights before AA/BA/IB applied for ATI? Surely the oneWorld application should be ruled on first!
Well the AA-BA-IB application is significantly different and more complex then CO's.
AA-BA-IB are looking to form an all new ATI while CO is simply requesting to join an existent one.
The AA-BA-IB is still very much in the evidentiary stage, while for the CO one the DOT has stated it has all the info it needs (DOT quote "record in the case is substantially complete") and is simply waiting for the last pleadings from all parties prior to making its decision and has set early December date for this. Its expect a decision would be forthcoming 30-60 days after that.

The long term plan is for UA & CO to form a JV across the Pacific however at this point the two applications that were submitted to DOT involved adding CO & AC to the existing UA/LH JV across the Atlantic (Atlantic Plus will become A++ with CO & AC) and adding CO to the Star ATI agreements.

WIll this deal include TLV? I am a Premier Exec. on UA and I travel to TLV frequently. I am sick of flying ORD-FRA-TLV and I would love to be able to fly on CO through EWR to TLV. I have heard great things about their product.
