Eff. Jun 09, Egypt Air will be re-introducing flights to DAR (DAR ES SALAAM, TANZANIA) which is on the East side of Africa just below Kenya. Flights will operate with their new B737-800 and it will be a four weekly direct operation. Egypt Air suspended flights to DAR five year back, due heavy competition then from Gulf Air, Emirates, BA, KLM, Kenya Airways e.t.c

Egypt Air was the first international airliner to land in Dar E salaam after Tanganyika's independence- Tanzania. It truly has a long history.

With the comeback- If it offers bothways connections Europe/Tanzania via Cairo then they will carry good loads as lots of tourism heading Tanzania. Plus Egypt Air is known for their cheap fares + this time offering a new plane. Pax out of DAR will be heading mostly to UK, INDIA, MIDDLE EAST, FAR EAST - students, Traders, VFR. Again bothways connections very important.

Cargo wise- there is good load out of Kilimanjaro (Arusha) for flowers to Europe, and also fish from Mwanza and not much competition. The industry/govt is working hard to persuade airlines to start flying directly into Kilimanjaro as most of this cargo is currently going via Nairobi.
Perhaps MS could do a 1 weekly operation CAI-JRO-DAR-CAI specially for this cargo.

There is also a good article - an interview with the Egyptian Ambassador in Tanzania:

re-introducing flights

Looks as if EgyptAir is to re-establish routes in some five years suddenly axed, many of these routes after decades of service.

That would be attempt number 3 at making MAN work (almost as good as AZ!) Thnk an A321 would be too much, better to use those A320s. But what frequency? Seem to recollect that weekly operations on Sundays was the favoured day previously. I can almost predict the flight number: MS679/680.

Will Egypt Air ever return to LAX? They used to fly 763's there.

Catania is interesting to say the least. SSH maybe for tourists but CAI? Are there some links between CTA and Egypt?

If MS plans to expand across the Atlantic, it would be VERY smart of them to update their F and C product. My parents flew an MS 777 from JFK to CAI and back and said the seat was barely better than a U.S. domestic F class seat. Perhaps they will have a fantastic new product when their new 77W's are delivered.

I'll believe MAN when i see it. I can't for the life of me see that one working, but then given MS aren't exactly stellar when it comes to their route planning maybe they will start it up !!  Wink

Does MS still have 737-500s? Could they possibly work?

Hopefully this route will work out well with them. Cairo is positioned well in the continent to linke Europe and the Middle East with routes in South and West Africa.

I know Egyptair currently runs 6 weekly flight out of NBO as well...
