Last 3 flights operated December 1st, fleet back to lessors, and employees laid off.
Apparently the company which had committed to purchasing Primaris following its October 15th Ch11 filing failed to come thru with funding, and talks with other parties failed to produce any takers for the carrier.

Sad to hear for the employees.
Any talk of the future of the Kona Shuttle that Primaris was operating between OAK and KOA (if it was still operating at the time of bankruptcy/shutdown)?

Did they still have 787 and 737 orders on the books, or was that something that has been long gone?

The 787 order was cancelled long ago. That was a bad move, because selling the positions would have allowed them to raise cash.

Wow, quick response. I had just found the answer, and was coming back to edit my question! LOL! Did they also not order 737-800's? Was that cancelled too?

Well, this doesn't come as a surprise to many I think, me included. They announced a huge 787/738 order while nobody knew practically nothing about this airline. Scheduled flights to my knowledge never really materialized, at least not to the extend where an aircraft fleet for which such a huge order would be required.
Even so, good luck to the employees in finding work elsewhere.

Maybe Family Airlines can swoop in with a few 747's to save the day! Just kidding.
Anyways, sorry to hear the sad news, especially so close to the holidays. I really feel for the employees, and I hope they can find work quickly.

An order was never placed. All that was ever announced was their "intention" to purchase 787s and 737s. No firm order from Primaris was ever booked by Boeing.

That's true. They only had the intention of buying some 787-8's and 737-800's. They had some pretty lofty plans back then.

Can anyone direct me to news of the shutdown? I checked they're website and it's still up and running with no news of a shutdown. Where can I find this information? thanks so much.

I am unable to find anything regarding this. I have searched, and noticed that the website is up and running. I wonder...

What exactly was their service? Were they mostly leasing to other companies?
As I understand, they had 3 aircraft, all of different color schemes, of which this was the most striking.

I'm not sure a 1 plane airline is much news for the world, or if anyone even notices but here are bits of a long employee letter;
Quote: December 1, 2008
Dear fellow employees:
It is with a heavy heart that I must tell you that we have heard from MagAir, and the news is not good. They have been working day and night to confirm their funding source, but we cannot go on hoping and incurring expenses. Rather than belador or speculate on the reasons for the delay, we have decided to turn the aircraft back to the lessors..........
I feel comfortable that either MagAir will fund shortly or one of the other potential purchasers will close within the next 45 days; but with the holidays and the financial meltdown of the many global money markets, we cannot keep our expenses as high as they have been.........
We have shut down the operational side of Primaris Airlines, effective tonight. We have flown our last three flights today, and our sole remaining aircraft N741PA, has been turned back to the lessor. As of today, our employees, sadly, are laid off.........
Per the order of the Bankruptcy Court, the office premises in Las Vegas have been secured by Federal Court order, and the locks have been changed. We are mandated to secure and insure all Primaris physical property, and that has been done.....
As you know, and have been kept informed, we have explored and followed every possible source of funding that we could dig up. This is a joyless day for us....

Primaris did some ad-hoc charter work like tour groups.

I am surprised that they continue to have their website showing none of this. Very odd.

Indeed. At the time Boeing really had a hard time getting new orders following ANA's launch order for the 787. This one was announced with a lot of fanfare, since they were so hard up for orders. How times have changed in the last few years!!!

I am sorry to hear this, especially at this time of year, on behalf of the employees.
This is another example of a start up with no clear direction or sense of direction. IIRC they were going to be an all-first class transcon based out of LAS. Then they were going to be a LCC...then a charter. I wonder how many investors got soaked in this scheme (cough, cough...Skybus).

LOL, indeed! Well, we're almost back to that point anyway with oil at USD 44. At least SOME good news.
Quoting Lightsaber (Reply 20): Sadly I think 2009 is the year that the list of 'shuts down' threads grows.
Indeed. So far no really big (international) airlines have gone bankrupt, but I guess some of the big players in the US are in danger. For now it seems that AZ is also saved. I'm really sad to see NW go (loved those red tails @ AMS), let's hope we won't loose any of those big airlines to bankruptcy.

Word around the campfire is that the employees went unpaid for several pay periods at Primaris.
Word I have from someone that was there is that they are hoping to be able to startup sometime in 2009.
Nobody screws you better than an airline job!
25 Xxcr: ya, they lost there 787 slots long ago. they didn't have any firm orders, but at the same time, how people know primiaris air? from 1-10 i say like 2
