I'm curious about something. Far Eastern Air Transport closed up shop a couple of months ago here in Taipei. For the longest time, it's fleet of 757s and MD-8x were scattered all over the island.
A couple of months ago, I noticed that the aircraft that had been parked at the former Domestic Terminal at TPE had disappeared. I assumed at the time that they'd been returned to the lessor, but they had, in fact, been moved to TSA and parked on the apron there.
The majority of the fleet is still sitting on the ground at TSA and not doing anything.
EF owned very few aircraft, and leased the majority of its fleet. I can imagine that the MD-8x have a fairly low demand, but I would imaging the 757 are in some demand. Is someone (Far Eastern Group) still paying the leases on these birds or are they sitting there waiting for the lessor(s) to come in and fly them off?
What is the process (generally) of returning aircraft to lessors when an airline shuts up shop?
I'm tired of the A vs. B sniping. Neither make planes that shed wings randomly!
