Hello Everyone,

I was just curious as to whether all of the BA 777's will be fitted with the New CLub world?
On ba.com, it states that all flights in and out of JFK and EWR (excluding BA172 & BA173) will have the New Club World. As my flight out of JFK will be a 777, will I get the NCW?

Just wanting a bit of clarity, and sorry if this has been discussed before, however the most recent search was Feb 08.

Cheers,

LX64A332

I think you need to take all of this information with a pinch of salt ... I recently operated BA 179 LHR-JFK, it was a 777 with the old CW ... yet according to your info/ba.com it should have been NCW ....

As for 777 flights to EWR, I also recently operated BA 185 and 184 (LHR-EWR-LHR), again 777 with old CW ....

Fingers crossed for you ... but I don't think it's guaranteed.

Thanks so much!
I'll keep my fingers crossed as well.

I'm actually really upset right now, because I booked BA 114 especially because it would be operated by a 747 (with NCW), but now its an equipment change to a 777  Sad

Also, when will the 777 fleet begin the installation and completion of NCW?

I can't personally answer your question but perhaps someone else on here can ... apparently a few of the previously scheduled 747 services to JFK have been downsized due to recent falls in premium traffic, thus more JFK services operated by the 777.

I can understand your wish to try the new product ... it's better in some ways than the older version and comes equipped with AVOD (although I must admit that whilst the AVOD is nice to have, the choices are rather limited).

Good luck.

Wait, so the 777's AREN'T equipped with AVOD?
That seems odd, as even the 763's have AVOD!

The RR powered 777s that had the 18 channel system will get AVOD when the new J seats are put in.
The GE90'd 777s that had the small screens and 12 channels will not get AVOD when the new J seats go in. I heard it is something to do with the wiring capacity (or something) of the GMIS system and the company can't see the financial benefit in ripping out the wiring to get AVOD onboard.

I think G-VIIR to G-VIIY (GE90) and G-YMMA to G-YMMR (RR) will get AVOD. As Fbgdavidson says, the older aircraft with GMIS will not receive AVOD as BA expects to upgrade to a new IFS early in the next decade and does not wish the expense of ripping out GMIS just to upgrade again in a couple of years.

I had heard that on G-ZZZA to G-ZZZC and G-VIIA to G-VIIP that F and J passengers would be offered portable devices once the upgraded interiors are fitted to give a better on-board offering.

I was on the BA185 last Friday (5th) LHR-EWR and it was a 777 with NEW CW, which was an unexpected bonus.... although, seat 10F which I was originally assigned, the AVOD was "unserviceable".

At least they informed me at Bag-drop, and changed my seat. I did notice one other passenger had problems with their AVOD too, but don't know seat number, so maybe this was one of their most recent 777's to be refitted?

next flights: BA1441 0566 0581 1446 EDI-LHR-MXP-LHR-EDI

I think it's more likely to do with the system rather than the fact that it was recently installed ... part of the reason we had so many problems with AVOD when it first came online was that the company opted to just keep upgrading the old system with new software patches instead of shelling out on a completely new IFE/AVOD system. It was thought to be the best option (and probably the cheapest!)

Let's see what happens when the new IFE system comes online (as I understand it, the 773s will be the first to feature the new system, whilst the factory-fresh 772s due for delivery from next year will still have the current Rockwell Collins/AVOD featured on all 744s, longhaul 767s + some 777s).

I hope the OP gets the upgraded 777, I think it looks much better.

Just curious, has BA given a time period for which the 777 updates are due to be completed by?

Many thanks,

cheers,

I've tracked this months BA0179 departures http://www.lhr-lgw.co.uk/, and it seems like it's now sneaking up towards a 50 / 50 chance to get a NGCW updated 772 with BA on this flight..
