Boeing Statement on American Airlines Announcement

Have not heard anything from either AA or Boeing since mid October. When is this going to be firm? Assume they are looking at ordering (42) 787-9's with (58) options.

Has AA has not firmed due to they have not reached an agreement with their pilots, is this going to happen at years end or are we looking like a spring time before this is firm?

AA and Boeing have been in bed together for years. Firm isn't relative for this marriage. I can't wait to see a 787 in AA livery. In the past AA has used new a/c orders to entice union to play ball. It's unclear at this point if this a the same old trickery.

AA has a few years to sort out the union 787 issues. I just love pilot's unions refusing to fly new airplane airlines have invested billions of dollars in. There has to be a wage scale agreed to by a predetermined formula based on aircraft size and weight. Back in 1989 United's pilots refused to fly the new 747-400, costing UA $200,000 a daily per plane. Unions, you go to love the way they treat the world's biggest buyer of Viagra, General Motors Corp.

This is the status of AAs 787 order:

1- AA/APA pilots union relationship is awful.
2- 787 production is delayed
3- I guess we might see an AA pilot strike before a 787 in AA colors.
4- AA pilots are too selfish and out of touch w/reality; proposing to AA to eliminate ALL codesharing and sabotaging the JBA process is narrow minded. Does the pilots union think AA will fly to all destinations worldwide with its own metal??? That is unrealistic and laughable!!!

Look around, the World major airlines are deepening cooperation. AA will certainly not survive ALONE.

BTW, I never saw anything at the time the 787 order was announced about the status of the remaining 772s on order. It was widely assumed they would be converted to 787s.

Was anything announced?

Yes, but which livery is the question.  scratchchin  Polished is not an option, so new livery?

I don't know why that was widely assumed. AA's remaining 777 orders remain - at least for now - completely intact as 777 orders, scheduled for delivery between 2013 and 2016.

Given the state of the global economy, and AA with its conservative expansion plans, I expect these to be deferred and eventually converted into B787 orders.

My god! Why does this same question/statement come up every time the AA/787 issue arises? Are there still people one this forum who never hear of chrome paint.

I don't know why that was widely assumed.

A ten year gap in deliveries is pretty suspect for, what, 6 frames? At replacement, they'd either wind up either retiring birds with lots of life left in them or keeping a very small fleet for a decade.

Given that AA has waited (or more accurately is still waiting) for the larger 789, conversion of those remaining 772 orders to something else (W or LR?) is only logical.
