Etihad Airways has unveiled a massive "hub restructuring" of its entire North American and Indian subcontinent bound flights for Summer 2009. These new changes will take place from March 29th 2009 and the main highlights are as follows:
YYZ -capacity increased to 3 weekly B 773ERs from 3 weekly A 346s i.e. an increase of 50 seats per flight and no first class cabin. New flight timings are as follows:
EY 141 Dep AUH 1010 Arr YYZ 1640
EY 140 Dep YYZ 2245 Arr AUH 2000
JFK - maintained with daily flights using an A 345 but its new flight timings are as follows:
EY 101 Dep AUH 0835 Arr JFK 1500 EY 100 Dep JFK 2250 Arr AUH 1950+1
DEL - no more same plane service to YYZ; overall capacity reduced to daily A 320s with night time departures from AUH.
BOM - will see same plane service from JFK i.e. 3 weekly A 345s + 3 weekly A 332s + weekly A 320. All flights will be now night time departures from AUH.
LHE & ISB - both cities see their weekly seating capacity reduced to daily A 320s with night time departures from AUH.
KHI - reduced from double daily flights to daily A 332s only with night time departures from AUH.
BRU - frequencies increased from 4 to 6 weekly flights using an A 332 5 times a week and an A 346 once a week.
MXP - frequencies increased from 3 to 5 weekly flights using an A 332.
DME - frequencies increasing from 5 weekly to daily using an A 332.
DUB - summer seasonal daily service resumes using an A 332.
With regards to its DAC bound flights, they have been re-timed to night time departures from AUH thus allowing excellent connections in both directions to all JFK, YYZ and European bound flights that depart AUH between 930am-1130am. EY will thus offer the fastest flight between DAC and YYZ/JFK via AUH in both directions as the transit times are 1 hour 15 minutes only in either direction.
Comments:
So finally EY sees the light by getting rid of their ridiculous early morning flights to/from JFK/YYZ. These new flights connect within 2-3 hours via AUH to all of the key Indian and Pakistani major cities in both directions and have decent arrival/departure times to/from JFK/YYZ which should help increase their load factors and hopefully yield too.
However, one does not see the point of them offering a same plane A 345 service between JFK and BOM as flying an A 345 between AUH & BOM is a total waste of money due to high operational costs. This begs the question, why didnt they order A 333s for high density flights to KUL/CGK/BOM/DEL/LHE/ISB/DAC/CAI/JED as this is the best aircraft to fly such routes nonstop from AUH.
So now with JFK connecting with all the major GCC and Indian subcontinent markets via AUH in both directions, isnt a capacity upgrade for JFK due from an A 345 to an A 346 which seats 46 more passengers + can carry 2-3 tons more cargo + a better aircraft to fly "operational cost wise" on this long haul sector . However with these new timings, KTM/BKK/SIN/KUL do not connect anymore to YYZ and JFK.

my mistake, EYs B 77Ws seat 92 more pax than their A 346s and not 50!

Surprised to see that - with Russian economy in a nosedive and plenty of capacity on MOW-DXB route (by EK, SU and SQ), putting an A330 on the Moscow run looks like an overkill... well, may be they know something I do not.

the A 332 has been put in place to DME so that it can effectively compete against EK from an in flight product standpoint in all cabin classes plus to get cargo...much better than sending A 319s and A 320s which it currently does!

Quoting Ronerone (Reply 5): Where are they getting the additional 77W's to do YYZ?
Arent their current 5 77W's maxed out?
BNE sees them 3x each week during our summer months as well - have seen them a few times here in the past 2 months when I've been out there spotting. Often see them flying over home on a Saturday morning too 15 minutes before arrival time (I work during the week when they fly over on Mondays and Thursdays). But mind you, during our cooler months here, they send in their 2-class A332's. All flights by EY here to BNE come in through SIN.
I've got my fingers crossed they'll eventually come in daily to BNE, and bring in the flight direct to compete with EK's upcoming daily direct. And plus, who'd want to share a plane with 380 other people during summer? Except of course if its an A380...
Quoting Karan69 (Reply 6): where will they put that 346---i assume MEL??
That is correct - has been mentioned here a few times.
