Or, since NW pretty much doesn't exist any longer (or won't very soon), I think DL doing a retro NW (i.e. 70s livery), a NE Yellowbird and the ones you mentioned above would be better.

Or the sixties ?
I got my virtual dollars running on this scheme...
I can see KL going for the sixties scheme but that would be "unimaginative" as DavidkunzVIE mentioned all retro liveries look similar to each other if that is what he meant. KL would stand out much better if they used the post war color scheme they used on their Constellation era. An MD11 in this colorscheme would be very very very very very nice!!!!!!
The MP retro livery looks very similar to KL's sixties livery the post war livery is the best in my opinion as it is different.
To the KL management, please use that retro on one of your MD11 aircraft!!!!!

Quoting DavidkunzVIE (Reply 8): It was nice when AC and AA did it but it became increasingly unimaginative when SK, LH, OS, AY, AF, MP, IB, AS, US and MX followed. (Did I miss any?)

Quoting Airbuster (Reply 18): Anyways, the info i got doesn't state that it's going to be a 737 so i can't say if other aircraft wouldn't get the special scheme.
According to the scramble.nl message board, there is gonna be a celebration flight on 01-01-2009 with a 737 and a 777.
So possibly there will be 2 special painted aircraft. (This is pure speculating BTW.)

Quoting AirKas1 (Reply 20): That same thread also said that the painting of a 777 will cost too much and therefor probably won't happen. Would be cool though if it is!
True, but so are the escorting fighter jets, I assume.

Quoting Anglo2 (Reply 3): Forgot to mention that KLM are 90 years young in 2009. A good excuse for a retro scheme then!
Indeed, I was hoping they would do this for their anniversary!!
Quoting A388 (Reply 7): Will KL also paint a MD11 in a retro livery, that would make KL the first airline to have the MD11 flying in retro colors!!!!
World Airways also has (or had) a retro MD11.
Quoting Keesje (Reply 9): The post war color scheme ?
That would be very cool.
Quoting Airbuster (Reply 18): It will be the 60's scheme and the aircraft will be renamed celebration flight!
Also a very nice livery, but I was hoping for an older one. Can we hope for both?
Quoting Airbuster (Reply 18): Anyways, the info i got doesn't state that it's going to be a 737 so i can't say if other aircraft wouldn't get the special scheme.
IMHO, it should be a 747. IIRC that is the aircraft (of course also counting the 742 and 743) that has been in their fleet the longest, almost 40 years!!
25 Spencer: Would love to see COA 777 in the meatball c/s, wow that would really be something! Spencer.
26 A388: You are right. I remembered the WA MD11 retrojet as well. It was a very nice one too!! That retrojet to my knowledge is gone now. Someone please corr
28 Scrappy27: I wish BA would paint one of our jets into retro colours.. !!??
29 Aviopic: That's nice, we also have a flight scheduled on 01-01 Next year it's 90 years KLM and 100 year motorized flight in the Netherlands and there will be
30 A388: So coming to think of it, in about 10 years from now we will have a mega awesome retro-jet as KL will then be celebrating their 100th anniversary!!!!
31 AirKas1: So Willem, I assume we can expect some A2A shots of this flight/other celebration flights
32 SXDFC: This seems to be a pattern lately with my work... The first Egyptair 735 in the new colors, is the exact same 735 I modeled it after a few months ago,
33 Tjc2: I don't know why, but I would love to see CX just flip back one livery with one of their A330's or something...I sure miss those green and white strip
34 Aviopic: Don't know but I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be a bobo flight. We'll see.
35 Frigatebird: Let's hope we can persuade AF management to repaint one of their airplanes then!

37 A340Spotter: Think that will be the last scheme CO would want for a retro color scheme. The Golden Jet colors would be more likely, if it ever happened.

47 Kappel: Really? I find that one a bit bland actually. Not my first choice, but it will look very sharp for sure. Can't wait to see (and fly) the real thing!
48 Viscount724: Wasn't that the shortest-lived of all KL liveries?
49 Argonaut: That would be far from bad---I've always liked it better than the later blue/blue horizonal striped version; to me, it was more original. But I'd hop
