Colombia - New Routes Requests (December)

On the public hearing that will take place on next Friday, December 19th 2008, the following requests will be studied and approved or denied by the Colombian Civil Aviation Authority (Aerocivil)

1°) Aerolíneas Argentinas:

They are requesting 3 weekly EZE-LIM-BOG-LIM-EZE flights, with 5th freedom rights, on Boeing 737-500. I wonder when we will get a stabilized operation of ARG in Colombia?.

2°) AeroMéxico:

Requests a daily MEX-MDE-MEX on Boeing 737-700 aircraft. Very nice to see another fellow Mexican company in Colombia, and such a legend as AeroMéxico is. Correct me, but does AMX has ever been in Colombia before?

3°) JetBlue

Is requesting a daily MCO-BOG-MCO flight, using A320 equipment. We've been waiting for JBU since almost a year, and this is a nice movement, changing their route from FLL to MCO.

4°) Spirit

Requests a daily FLL-MDE-FLL on A319. Spirit is expanding itself more than any other North American airline, except for AAL, in Colombia. If this is approved, they'll take their third Colombian city served from FLL.

5°) Aires

Is requesting the following routes to be operated with DHC8-200, DHC8-400Q (??) and or B73G (??):

BOG-ADZ-BOG
BOG-BAQ-BOG
BOG-BGA-BOG
BOG-CLO-BOG
BOG-CTG-BOG
BOG-MTR-BOG
BOG-PEI-BOG
BOG-SMR-BOG
BOG-MDE-BOG
CLO-MDE-CLO
MDE-ADZ-MDE
BOG-LET-BOG
CLO-ADZ-CLO

BOG-FLL-BOG (Daily)

6°) Avianca

Is requesting its pending 2 weekly BOG-JFK-BOG on A319 to maintain the 2 daily frequencies.

7°) EasyFly

Requesting 3 daily J41 runs on:

BOG-CLO-BOG
BOG-PEI-BOG

8°) SAM

Requesting a daily frequency on F100 equipment:

CLO-PTY-CLO
MDE-PTY-MDE
BOG-PTY-BOG

This is another obvious movement against Copa/AeroRepública.

They aren't changing their request. They requested MCO-BOG and FLL-BOG from U.S. DOT, but were only approved by U.S. DOT for MCO.

JetBlue is already selling tickets for MCO-BOG, but they are only allowed to sell tickets to passengers starting their travel in the U.S. And, so far, bookings are really bad. But selling Colombia-originating tickets will help.

Also interesting to see no news on AeroRepublica to MIA. They keep planning it, but keep pushing it back.

So what exactly is preventing them from selling tickets in Colombia? How long before they're able to do so?

They are waiting for the hearing next Friday, once they are approved, they will be able to sell tickets

Will Spirit ever fly to Barranquilla ? Large market still wanting to avoid Avianca.

Spirit has received final DOT approval for FLL-MDE-FLL, it was granted on Dec 4th 2008. Must start route within 90 days (plus 10 days grace for final day) So roughly between Jan and beginning of Mar they will start the route, end of Feb/ start of Mar being most likely.

I don't think you'll see Barranquilla anytime soon. You'll very likely see Medellin (granted by DOT on 12/04/08), Armenia and Isla San Andres sometime in 2009, a few other cities in 2010.

JiGarcia,

Aeromexico has not flown scheduled service to Colombia before. It would be nice for them
to start the Medellin Flight. However they have a reputation for asking for route approvals
and usually do not start them. This from their request for USA authorities which they never
start.

Hopefully this one will be a go..

I would like to see MEX-CLO as this is my favourite city in Colombia apart from Cartagena.

Yes, they have.

They did it for the better part of the 70s and 80s. Routing was MEX-PTY-BOG with DC-8's. I even recall seeing a business card of AM station manager at El Dorado on my father's stuff circa 1986...

Wow,

That is interesting news. My friends who work for Aeromexico do not know that as I got my information from them.

They did tell me however that they have done Charters to Cartagena and Bogota recently.
