Quoting SKYYBLUE (Reply 2): Also... MCO-SJO was previously flown by Martinair Holland with 767 equipment... shouldn't an E190 do remarkably better than a 767 on the route?
It was flown with a Martinair A320 operated by LACSA.

Quoting MAH4546 (Reply 1): Orlando-Bogota early bookings are absolutely pathetic.
I would think that this has to do with a couple of things, including the fact that JetBlue cannot sell BOG-originating traffic (yet), as well as the fact that this flight is starting in the dead of the winter. I would think that it could pick up significantly with the combination of BOG-originating passengers and a better season.
And then again, it could be because there is a tiny amount o O&D traffic on this route. Let's see what happens.

The inability to sell Colombia traffic definitley has something to do with it.
It is not starting at a terrible time, though. February is a good time for U.S.-Colombia traffic. U.S.-Colombia "double peaks" Slow months are April, May, September and October.
In the end though, I'm not optimistic it will work. The local market is too small.
Then again, MCO-SDQ is a small market and JetBlue is holdings its own, but they also only need to fill an E90, with a lower break-even. It will be interesting to see what effect - if any - FLL-SDQ has on MCO-SDQ. FLL-SDQ is nearly 10x the size.

This is a good point. If B6 could send the E190 on MCO-BOG, I'm sure they would. Clearly, there is a reason that B6 chose the E190 for MCO-SJO and the A320 for MCO-BOG, and I would guess that has to do with expectations for checked baggage.
MCO-SDQ did have a slow start, but recently it has been going gangbusters. FLL-SDQ, as you say, is a much larger market. However, what kind of effect do you think it would have on MCO-SDQ? MCO and FLL are obviously different markets, but maybe as far as connecting traffic? The only overlapping connecting traffic I could think of is BOS, IAD, BUF, and AUS - and I don't think those numbers are too significant (especially since there are more connecting opportunities through JFK for the first three on that list, and I would think that AUS connecting traffic is virtually nonexistent).
On any note, it is nice to see JetBlue committed to expanding its Florida-Caribbean/South America/Central America operations. It's good to try something new, and so far it has been working.

Dominican immigrant traffic from rural Florida, parts of which are equi-distant between FLL and MCO.
There are not many Dominicans in Orlando itself, but there are a lot between Fort Lauderdale and Orlando in rural parts of the state - like Port St. Lucie, which is roughly equidistant between FLL and MCO.

Barger mentioned more gates at MCO, didn't they recently move to Airside One?.. Where are they looking for more gates, with NWA moving to DL's gates at Airside four is it possible CO would move to Airside three to be with UA?.. How does Airside three compare with Airside One.

Also nice words about LH.
jetBlue was supposed to switch from Airside 2 to Airside 1 at MCO, but I believe these plans are on hold for now.

Anyone else notice how he mentioned 140 channels of TV? If directTV is going to install 80 channels on Continental Airlines, I wonder if this is where we will "1 up" that by adding even more programming to our line up...

Again, it's because of BOG's ailtitude, whchi is about 8000ft. No way the E190 could do this almost 4hr flight on the way back.
Let's hope the bookings get better when they start to sell in Colombia. BTW, february and march (except for holy week) are also slow months for air travel. The winter peak is only december-january.

That is a very good point. B6 could potentially have almost 20 gates in Airside 1 if this were to happen.

Read again, he said "140 channels of in-flight entertainment". I'm sure he was including the XM radio "channels" in that number. Play on words
