Title says it all: has there ever been air service using a mainline jet to Nantucket? Anything unscheduled using a mainline jet, maybe a charter? The runway is 6,300ft long, so from that point of view it should be doable, no?

I believe CO used to send a 737 there from EWR if I am not mistaken.

I'd be stunned if CO ever used 737. Just wouldn't think the demand would exist. I'd have thought never anything bigger than ERJs or ATRs. But stranger things have happened.

I have timetables from the late 90s that show seasonal CO MD80s on the weekends ( fridays and sundays)

NewYork Air did fly DC9-30s in to ACK, CO flew their 733s to ACK and AA even flew MD80s in there for a season (in the 90s).

In addition, B6 flies their EMB190s seasonally into ACK too.

In fact, if memory is accurate, there was a near disaster with a Northeast DC9 on approach into Nantucket... as crazy as it sounds, I believe that the aircraft drifted below the glide slope on an ILS approach to RWY 06 and actually made some physical contact with the ocean before pulling up and miraculously saving the approach. I cannot find any references to this incident, but perhaps someone on this board has some more details.

In 1958, a Northeast Convair 240 crashed on a foggy approach into ACK with many fatalities.

Not scheduled, but... If I am remembering this correctly, sometime in the mid to late 90s, we had a PHL-BDA flight using a 737-300 that coudn't get into BDA due to high crosswinds. The a/c had to turn back towards the mainline and had to divert into ACK due to low fuel.

BizEx flew their Avro RJs for a while to Nantucket

When I worked for PBA in the 1980s, Continental flew a 737 or MD-80 on Monday mornings from ACK to LGA so Lorenzo could get from his country house in Nantucket back to Houston while running Texas Air. This continued into the 1990s and early 000s

Trump Shuttle 721s visited ACK quite often and were handled by us at PBA

Before that New York Air operated DC-9-30s to New York

Before that was Northeast and their DC-9s

Melon Bank flew their private DC-9 to ACK quite often and there have been a number of private 727s that have visited.

I was working in ACK for 2 summers for US Express in the mid-90's, and I do remember CO flying 737's and m80's into ACK during the summer on weekends only.

I have no association with Spirit Airlines

Wow -- i didnt realize NY flew to MVY as well. In fact, i didnt realilze MVY had a runway capable of a D9S. Must have been a cool flight between the islands in a DC-9!

Did you guys manage a cabin service on the legs in and out of LGA on that route? Must have been a real hustle if so! Then again, NY crews were great at that!

We did a service from LGA, but not between MVY & ACK.
