NZ To Get 777s

A contact in New Zealand told me last night that NZ was getting 3 or 4 777s. He wasn't sure which model. He thought that they would replace a couple of 774s. Perhaps these 774s will end up going to AN.
What do you think?

Avman,
how reliable do you regard this source? I gather by 774 you mean 747-400. So you are saying NZ will reduce capacity by replacing 744s with 772ERs and AN will acquire capacity by gaining some NZ 744s. Are these new 777s or from SQ? What is the time scale for any such moves? NZ only has 8 744s with some powered by RR and others by GE. To give 4 of these to AN and acquire 4 777s would add a lot of expense to maintenance on 2 types. I would like to see them get a decent fleet of 777s(8-10) to make the aircraft more viable in the overall fleet.

Dale.

Sorry, I did mean the 744. I think NZ will get more 777s than 3 or 4. My contact was pretty sure that some 744 would be replaced.
I was thinking out lound about the 744s going to AN, I think it is a good possibility though.

AN would only be interested in NZ 744s if maintenance for them was conducted in AKL. AN's existing 744s are PW powered so they would not want to gear up for more 744s with RR or GE. I think AN's preference would be more PW 744s from SQ.

Interesting.. the scrappy gossip I've heard at the moment suggests the A340 has the advantage over the 777!

Air NZ and AN has had SO much gossip surrounding it recently, everything from A380s to AN & NZ merging under one name to AN going under, to a totally new fleet.

So far all we have seen is 3 old 767-200s being leased to Ansett. I think we should all wait and see what else comes before rushing to conclusions (me included).

ANZ actually wanted to give its SYD-LAX route to AN, so this could explain that ANZ receives some 777 and gives some 744s to AN for these flights...

First of all i am not a pig,  Insane i am actually a Buffalo >>Nganabaru<<, my brother is a Crocodile >>Baru<< and my girlfriend is a turtle. Second of all i never said that i dont beleive you, i do beleive that Air NZ have something special up their sleeve. it is just that some of us are getting sick of hearing the same thing over and over. "all shall be revealed shosrtly" would that be reffering to the new stratergy? Sorry if you thought i was having a go at u.  Innocent

I do support QF but whos to say i dont like Ansett? I also Support Royal Brunei, They are not linked to QF. I like QANTAS because they are Australian, just the same as you like Air NZ. I was not having a go at Air NZ or Ansett. How do you know QF dont trust their employees ?? Most large airlines dont.

Eric

Thanks for clearing that up!!
The thing that i get upset about is all the Australians and some americans think the AirNZ have not thought this thorugh!!
Of course they have!! I didnot mean any disrespect to you. I do agree with you in that you like Qantas because you are Australian and I like AirNZ because i am a New Zealander. But just stupid things like.... "AirNZ are going to be in big trouble when Qantas get the A330."
Of course AirNZ/AN have thought this through!! God do you think that they are that dumb?? We have the ex - Qantas CEO and look what he has done to Qantas!! Made them one of the biggest carriers in the industry!! And may i add one of the Best!!

The reason why i say.... "All shall be reaveled soon," is because they are have a big announcement soon!!

Have a Good day!!

Cheers

Look, if they get them or not, It will be good because it may cause QF to get off their backsides and improve their product with a little competition from NZ.

It already has been announced that the flight SYD-LAX is going to AN in the coming months!!

Funny, I don't remember seeing anything that says that SYD-LAX is going to AN. All I have heard is that AN is hoping to start SYD-American flights (NOT TO LAX) with their own metal.

So, can you please tell me where this announcement you talk of comes from?

And please don't tell me your sister....or is this announcment part of the big announcement coming soon from NZ (part of their plan I take it?)

NZ don't have any cash for anything brand new do they?? I think something secondhand from somewhere may be how they do this. If I happen to be right then NZ won't buy 777's because I don't think there are any available secondhand 777s. 744s & 763s are on the cards I suspect.

ANZ has SQ as it's part owner and SQ has stated that they will help both ANZ and AN in fleet purchases.

No, Actually it was reported in the Sunday Herald.
You will most probably find it in their acarive section at their Web-site.
Also it was announced on Channel One news and Nightline!!
Sorry if you are not up to speed on this but that is your problem and not mine!! Please don't go bagging me!! I really don't appreciate it!!

By the way, You were right, SQ only bought a percentage of AirNZ for AN!! Sorry that i doubted you!!

Cheers

Airnewzealand, I just wish you would tell us what it is they are going to announce. All we hear is that they are going to make an announcement & there has been no announcement to date.

If you know something there is no reason why you can't tell us.

The NZ-AN SYD-LAX transfer comes from an interview on Business Sunday. It was not a firm announcement but an advisory.
