It appears that the lights on the longer runway at OGG (2/20) are not working and this has disabled mainland flights from landing or taking off after dark. The news story is not clear as to whether the interisland airlines with jets (Hawaiian, etc.) can use the shorter runway to operate normally. I've seen jets land on 5/23 but never depart on that runway.

Here are all the current NOTAMs for OGG 1816Z on the 25th. Looks like most of the lights have been fixed up to taxiway G and taxiway G is closed anyway Though it looks like the Maui VOR is OTS. It all depends on OP SPECs for 5/23 departures but I would bet anything over a 757 is not allowed. I think UA is limited to to 02/20 even though they have approaches for 23 in the airway manuals for the crews.

Sounds like inter island flights are not affected so passengers on flights diverted to HNL might be able to get to Maui via an interisland carrier. The last flight to Maui is at 9:40pm on HA. It gets dark about 6pm so if your flight arrives to OGG after that hour and the lights are not fixed you will most likely be diverted to HNL. Arriving after 8:30pm and you'll have to stay overnight on Oahu.

Looks like Air Canada's flight last night (AC057/24DEC) diverted to HNL, but then went to OGG about an hour later. Landed HNL 2321, then took off for OGG 0023, landing at 0107. The OGG-YVR flight cancelled, however.
